Get to Know the Team

Join the FundsCore Platform team at Grab - a dynamic team building a reliable platform to address challenging problems in the Payments domain. We are a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, product managers, and operations. We innovate and collaborate to solve one of the most challenging problems: enabling accurate settlement to large numbers of merchants. This role prefers you have certain Payments domain expertise or demonstrate quick-learning skills.

Get to Know the Role

You will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining one of our Payments Core (FundsCore) platforms which includes complex backend systems and data pipelines to meet both functional and non-functional requirements.

You will contribute to our Operational Excellence and mentoring juniors in the team.

You will report to an Engineering Manager and work onsite at Grab Vietnam office at Ho Chi Minh City.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable software applications that meet business and non-functional requirements
• Write clean, efficient, testable, and maintainable code to solve challenging problems in the Fintech domain
• Collaborate with other teams to define, design, and deliver new features
• Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality, ensure proper technical documentation, and facilitate knowledge sharing
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, providing fixes and implementing long-term sustainable solutions
• Contribute to architectural decisions and the technical direction of projects
• Ensure system reliability through observability practices and drive continuous improvements in Operational Excellence; participate in On-Call rotations is mandatory
• Provide DevOps support to the team to ensure system health and performance
• Mentor junior engineers and interns, encouraging a culture of learning and improvement
• Stay current with latest industry trends and technologies; leverage Generative AI tools to improve productivity and convert to outcomes

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of relevant software development experience with proficiency in one or more major programming languages such as Golang (preferred), Java, or demonstrated ability to quickly acquire necessary skills
• Good Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures, and know when and how to apply them effectively
• Fluent in English (verbal and written)
• The ability to address not only happy path scenarios but also handle edge cases and unhappy paths
• Experience employing AI tools to significantly improve project delivery
• Solid understanding of clean architecture principles, data-driven application design, and large-scale data processing
• Proven experience building large-scale distributed systems utilizing DBMS, caching solutions, NoSQL databases, and application servers (RESTful and gRPC) while ensuring data consistency
• Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), and DevOps practices
• Operational and compliance excellence – proven ability to implement solutions that meet requirements for Observability, SLAs, Security, Data Governance, and Regulatory compliance
• Ability to write efficient, extensible, and thoroughly tested code for complex projects, selecting appropriate abstractions that adhere to SOLID principles
• Ability to write effective design documents and maintain up-to-date documentation (e.g., runbooks)
• Proven experience or solid knowledge about Fintech and Payments is preferred. Working knowledge about Settlement and Reconciliation is a bonus.
