Job Description

Evri Group is the UK’s premier parcel delivery business, uniting four distinct brands—Evri, Evri Premium, a network of DHL, UK Mail and Irish e-commerce specialist Coll-8—to deliver more than 1 billion parcels and letters annually across the UK and to over 200 global destinations. With 12,000 colleagues, 30,000 couriers and drivers, 8,000 vehicles, and a nationwide network of hubs, depots and fulfilment centres, we combine over 50 years of expertise with the scale and flexibility to support everyone from casual senders to SMEs and major retailers. Driven by our friendly, ambitious and diverse people, we are passionate about delivering exceptional service and offer exciting opportunities across the Evri Group.

Senior Software Engineer

Lead Technical Delivery. Build with AI. Own What You Deliver.

Competitive plus bonus and benefits

Ready to lead complex engineering delivery and help shape the future of one of the UK’s largest parcel delivery networks?

At Evri, technology sits at the heart of everything we do. Our engineers design, build and support the platforms, applications and services that power millions of parcel journeys every year.

As we modernise our business-critical Mail platforms using cloud-native technology and AI-driven engineering, we’re looking for experienced Senior Software Engineers with strong Java and Spring Boot skills. You’ll help build new services in conjunction with a partner, then take long-term ownership of their development and production support.

This is an opportunity to make a visible impact: influence technical direction, help shape a modern engineering approach and establish the internal expertise needed to operate and evolve these critical services over time.

Morley / remote role.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll work in a collaborative team using a next-generation approach to software engineering in conjunction with agentic IDEs. You’ll take ownership of complex backend features and services from design through deployment, then help maintain, troubleshoot, improve and support them as part of Evri’s engineering team.

  • Design and deliver scalable, secure Java/Spring Boot services, APIs and integrations aligned with agreed architectural standards.
  • Write high-quality, maintainable production code and critically review AI-generated designs, code and tests rather than accepting outputs at face value.
  • Champion clean architecture, sound design patterns, automated testing, peer review and robust coding standards.
  • Own security, quality, performance and resilience of the services you build, including their reliability in production.
  • Diagnose production issues and improve observability, automation, CI/CD and operational tooling to make services easier to support.
  • Work closely with AWS Professional Services and Evri colleagues to understand design decisions, transfer knowledge and develop independent in-house capability.
  • Lead technical discussions with Product, Delivery, Architecture, Testing and Operations to make pragmatic, supportable design decisions.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing.
  • Create and maintain useful technical documentation, operational runbooks and handover knowledge so the internal team can confidently operate and enhance the platform after AWS completes its engagement.

What You’ll Bring

  • Significant commercial experience developing and supporting production-grade backend services, with awareness of the wider full stack.
  • Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot expertise, including API design, integrations, testing and maintainable service development.
  • A sound understanding of distributed systems, software architecture, design patterns, security and scalability.
  • Proven experience owning services end to end, including deployment, troubleshooting, incident resolution and ongoing improvement.
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying and supporting production services on AWS.
  • A proven track record of collaborative delivery using Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, logging and observability tools.
  • Strong technical judgement, including the ability to evaluate AI-generated code and designs.
  • Experience with AI coding tools.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, including working effectively with external delivery partners.
  • A genuine commitment to mentoring, knowledge transfer and raising standards across a team.
  • Curiosity about new engineering practices and the confidence to improve how software is built and supported.
  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

The Impact You’ll Make

  • Help build the internal engineering capability that will own this new platform.
  • Deliver resilient, secure and maintainable software that remains understandable and supportable in production.
  • Help shape an inclusive engineering culture through mentorship, knowledge sharing and practical technical leadership.
  • Set consistent engineering and operational practices that support long-term platform growth and evolution.

Why Join Evri?

  • Work on technology that supports millions of customers across the UK.
  • Play a leading role in modernising business-critical services using AI-driven engineering practices.
  • Learn from specialists during delivery, with real ownership of the applications and services that follow.
  • Join a supportive, collaborative environment where senior engineers are trusted to lead and improve.
  • Deepen your cloud engineering expertise while exploring practical, responsible uses of AI in software delivery.
  • Enjoy the flexibility of remote working, with Morley as the role location.
