We are excited to announce a permanent opening for a Senior Software Engineer at our state-of-the-art facility in Severn Beach, Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity to lead the design, development, delivery and continuous improvement of software solutions across the Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology product portfolio while remaining actively involved in hands-on software development.

Provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring software systems are robust, maintainable, secure and aligned with business objectives. Mentor engineers, drive engineering best practices and act as a key technical authority for customers and internal stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading the design and development of software for our products and systems.
• Taking ownership of complex software projects and technical challenges from concept through delivery.
• Developing high-quality software using technologies including C#, C++ and C.
• Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across Engineering, Service, Product Management and Operations.
• Supporting customers and field service engineers in diagnosing and resolving challenging technical issues.
• Mentoring software engineers and helping establish best practices across the team.
• Reviewing software designs and implementations to ensure quality, maintainability and security.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and the long-term evolution of our software platforms.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in engineers who enjoy solving real-world technical problems and can balance hands-on development with technical leadership.

You'll likely have:

• Significant experience developing commercial software products.
• Strong C#, C++ and/or C development skills.
• Experience leading complex technical work and influencing technical direction.
• Experience working on Windows-based applications and real-time control systems.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across different disciplines.
• A degree in Computing, Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

It would be advantageous if you also have experience in:

• Industrial automation or semiconductor equipment.
• Hardware interfacing and control systems.
• Cybersecurity and secure software development.
• AI/ML technologies or modern DevOps practices.
