This position is for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Test Engineering fleet within the IST Algo Department. The team is responsible for ensuring that trading algorithms behave as advertised and aims to grow global coverage by building automation solutions.
Test Engineering provides services to all clients within the Firm. Test Engineering partners with algo development teams to ensure seamless technology delivery to our clients. Test Engineering's goal is to deliver a first-class technology platform by ensuring top-notch service and tools within IST Algo. This division supports the evolution of technology platforms and tools, manages and maintains our production plant, and ensures the implementation and adherence to proper operational controls to manage risk. Test Engineering is a global team assembled to provide tools and services for software developed for Algorithmic Electronic Trading, Client and Exchange Connectivity, and Trading Risk Controls within Morgan Stanley Electronic Trading, part of the global Institutional Securities Business.
The ideal candidate should have 10+ years of development experience in C++, Java, Python, Perl or similar, with demonstrable subject matter technical expertise leveraging AI (AMP, Claude Code, Co-pilot, etc) to create test harnesses and tests, automate workflows and build end-to-end dashboards/UI solutions for data analysis, presentation and reporting. They should also have experience owning and delivering projects/products and a mindset for identifying opportunities for improvements and implementing them.
The candidate will be expected to act as a representative of the team working very closely with the development managers and key stakeholders inside and outside the technology organization to ensure the product deliverables meet the business needs.
Required Skills:
10+ years of experience in creating, running and maintaining test automation environments
AI Native with extensive experience developing skills and agents using GenAI tools such as AMP, Claude Code, Co-pilot, etc to automate workflows, streamline processes and boost productivity
Subject matter expert in Testing and Development in Python/C++ or related language
Strong knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments and full end-to-end SDLC cycle
Strong experience working with electronic trading systems, trading algorithms, and low latency execution
Adopt best practices when developing automation code including comment documentation, maintainability and AI-driven development
Technical leadership, taking ownership and becoming an SME in our tests/products
Ability to partner with peers and management team to continuously improve testing methods, process, techniques and use of tools
Strong verbal and written communication
Working experience in the finance services industry in a similar role
Knowledge of trading life cycle with exposure to trading and matching engines and an understanding of capital markets, electronic trading, order flow and execution, FIX protocol.
