Breaking Ground operates nearly 4,000 units of housing across New York City, along with housing in upstate New York and Connecticut. Supportive housing - affordable housing paired with services designed to help people maintain their homes for the long-term - is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness.

But we didn't stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground's programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

Senior Software Engineer
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Software Engineering, the Senior Software Engineer builds software to optimize workflows and increase system accuracy. They create software tools to optimize the technical direction for the organization and provide support for seamless integrations with external software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Write scalable, documented, and tested code that aligns with best practices in security, performance, and maintainability
• Build software and run regular reports for ongoing review of the quality of data collection
• Run regular reports to check for data quality
• Collaborate with teams to understand business needs and integrate them into software design and architecture
• Optimize and enhance existing software to maintain compliance and improve performance
• Provide support to junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical expertise
• Identify opportunities to improve development processes and advocate for best practices in coding, testing, and deployment
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation
• Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5 years of software development experience
• Experience building and maintaining web applications
• Proficiency in C#, JavaScript, Python, SQL, SQL Server, ASP.NET, Microsoft Azure suite or similar cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple significant priorities, including complex and time sensitive projects, and the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
• Highly analytical and a strategic problem solver
