The Job
Working within a corporate IT operations organization as an Automation Engineer
Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell, VSHELL, and other scripting tools (e.g., Bash, Python) to streamline deployments, monitoring, and maintenance.
Build and maintain repeatable automation workflows using Ansible/Terraform and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins/GitHub Actions) with approvals, rollbacks, and promotion across environments.
Automate monitoring, alerting, and reporting (SolarWinds/Splunk/vROps) including log/metric collection, threshold tuning, and auto-remediation runbooks where appropriate.
Manage automation code using version control (Git), implement code reviews, and apply testing/validation (linting, dry-runs, staging) to ensure safe, repeatable changes.
Implement secure automation practices: integrate secrets management (Vault/SSM), least-privilege access, credential rotation, and audit-friendly logging.
Standardize and automate server provisioning and patching for Windows and VMware (templates, configuration baselines, scheduled maintenance windows) with clear pre/post checks.
Support projects to meet IT objectives while managing time based on priorities.
Provide reports and metrics to support operations requirements analysis and growth planning.
Required Skills
Scripting automation (PowerShell, VSHELL) for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance; Linux and Windows automation experience is a plus. System maintenance and upgrades: apply patches, upgrades, and security updates across Windows Server and VMware infrastructure. Documentation: create and maintain clear operational documentation (runbooks, SOPs, and change records).
Shifts
Rotational shifts.
Weekend On-call Support (monthly once).
Public Holidays – On-call Support (rotational).
Strong PowerShell scripting skills (modules/functions, error handling, logging) and experience integrating scripts with schedulers and/or CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with Ansible Automation Platform (Tower) and/or Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) for standardized builds and configuration compliance.
VMware automation exposure (PowerCLI, vRealize Automation/Orchestrator) including provisioning and lifecycle operations.
4–6+ years of hands-on automation experience across Windows Server and VMware environments.
Working knowledge of Git-based workflows (branching, PR reviews) and automation best practices (testing, linting, peer review).
Security-focused automation mindset: least-privilege execution, secrets management (Vault/SSM), and audit-ready change tracking.
