Greenely is on a mission to make energy smarter, greener, and more accessible. We build technology that helps households understand, optimize, and reduce their energy usage - contributing to a more sustainable future.
Our products sit at the intersection of real-time data, consumer experience, and energy infrastructure. That means the engineering challenges we tackle are both complex and impactful.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thinks beyond tickets and implementations - someone who naturally leans into architecture, system design, and long-term technical direction.
This role is not about writing the most code. It’s about making the right technical decisions, shaping systems that scale, and guiding how we build - especially as we explore AI-driven and agentic systems within our platform.
You’ll work closely with product, data, and other engineers to design robust solutions where tradeoffs are real, constraints matter, and decisions have lasting impact.
Own and drive architecture decisions across services and systems
Design systems that are scalable, resilient, and cost-aware
Act as a technical sounding board for engineers across teams
Work hands-on when needed, but focus on direction over volume
Evaluate and introduce patterns for AI agents and automation workflows
Identify bottlenecks and proactively improve system performance and reliability
Balance speed vs. quality, short-term delivery vs. long-term sustainability
You bring a senior mindset - you’ve seen things break, scaled systems, and understand why “best practices” are often context-dependent.
You likely:
Have extensive experience designing and building systems in the cloud (AWS preferred)
Understand caching strategies, databases, and distributed systems - and their tradeoffs
Have worked with real production systems where performance, cost, and reliability mattered
Have experienced failure modes (and learned from them)
Think in systems, not just services
Integrate AI agents and automation into your daily workflows to drive tangible impact on delivery
Prefer ownership and agency over rigid processes
We don’t expect everything, but strong experience in several of:
Cloud architecture & infrastructure design
Designing and building robust distributed systems, distributed business transactions, and stateless compute pipelines
Data storage (SQL/NoSQL), caching layers (Redis, etc.)
Observability, monitoring, and debugging production systems
Performance optimization and cost efficiency
Event-driven systems and asynchronous workflows
AI/ML systems and agent-based tooling
Experience working with data and streaming pipelines, Kafka / Spark, etc
You take initiative and move problems forward without waiting for permission
You ask “why” before jumping to solutions
You’ve built enough to know that tradeoffs > perfection
You communicate clearly with both engineers and non-engineers
You care about building things that actually work - in production, over time
Work on real-world problems tied to energy, sustainability, and climate impact
Be part of a team where engineering decisions matter
High ownership, low bureaucracy
A culture that values pragmatism, curiosity, and continuous improvement
If you’re the kind of engineer who naturally steps back to see the bigger picture - and then steps in to shape it - we’d like to talk.
Start date: Asap
Location: Stockholm, Sweden (on-site, with 1 day/week remote flexibility)

Greenely is the next generation energy management tool. Using the Greenely mobile app, households will be able to get an overview of their energy consumption and personalized feedback on their energy behavior, all with minimum effort and with no additional hardware installation.
The tool utilizes learning algorithms that track and analyze the households’ energy behaviors and then adapts accordingly. Through in-depth and targeted analysis, gamification and comparison with neighbors, the households will be incentivized and guided towards a decreased energy consumption.
