Job Introduction FREQUENTIS Solutions & Services (FSS) as a member of the Austrian Group FREQUENTIS AG, is focused on software development, system engineering and delivery of safety-critical voice communication and information systems. Our solutions are developed and distributed in the following business segments: Air Traffic Management & Defence (civil and military air traffic control, aeronautical information management), Public Safety (police, fire and rescue services, emergency medical services) and Public Transport & Maritime (railway and urban transport solutions, vessel traffic management).
We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to strengthen our growing product team and help scale a high-demand solution evolving from an incubator initiative into a mature product. You will act as the technical backbone of a cross-functional, self-organizing team working on safety-critical communication systems, shaping the technical direction and enabling the team to deliver high-quality solutions.

Key Tasks Your Main Responsibilities

  • Shape the technical direction of your team’s services, balancing long-term architecture with delivery needs
  • Act as the technical backbone of a cross-functional team working on safety-critical systems
  • Make key architectural decisions and evaluate trade-offs (e.g. consistency vs. availability, simplicity vs. abstraction)
  • Review code and designs to ensure high quality and prevent structural issues
  • Mentor and guide engineers, supporting their growth and decision-making
  • Own your domain end-to-end while staying close to implementation details
  • Ensure alignment with other teams in a distributed system environment
  • Drive quality practices (testing, static analysis, observability, CI/CD)
  • Contribute hands-on by implementing critical components in modern C++
  • Translate business requirements into clear technical solutions in an agile setup


Key Qualifications Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Deep expertise in modern C++ (C++17, C++23 and beyond), including advanced features, template metaprogramming, and multiple paradigms (OOP, generic, functional)
  • Strong experience in system architecture and design of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven solutions
  • Ability to define service boundaries, data ownership, and communication contracts
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems challenges (consistency, failure modes, idempotency, etc.)
  • Experience with asynchronous programming, real-time communication, and protocol design
  • Knowledge of API design and schema evolution (e.g. JSON Schema, versioning)
  • Experience with relational and embedded databases (PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL, SQLite)
  • Strong background in build systems and tooling (CMake, CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins or similar)
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Podman/Buildah) and large-scale codebase management
  • Expertise in testing (e.g. Google Test), static analysis, and maintaining high code quality
  • Familiarity with observability and tracing tools (e.g. OpenTelemetry)
  • Experience working in agile environments and aligning across teams
