Job Description

Help build the backstage of the music industry.

When a song plays in a hotel lobby, on social media ads or in an airplane cabin, there’s technology behind it. Songtradr builds part of that infrastructure - and now we’re opening a tech hub in Helsinki to take it further.

Songtradr is a global music technology company powering how music is licensed, distributed, and experienced worldwide.

Through MassiveMusic and our core B2B platform (formerly 7digital), we work with global brands and businesses - handling billions of requests every month and enabling music to be used across everything from advertising to physical spaces.

Songtradr also operates Bandcamp, one of the largest marketplaces for independent artists, with over 27 million monthly users connecting artists directly with their global fanbase.

While this role sits on the B2B platform side, the impact of what you build can extend across the Songtradr ecosystem.

Now we’re looking for a Senior Software Developer to be one of the first hires in our new Helsinki tech hub. You’ll shape the team, the culture, and the code.

The role

You’ll join the API team behind the MassiveMusic platform: enterprise-grade, service-oriented, and used by some of the world’s biggest brands and platforms to access, manage, and deliver music. Think APIs, CDNs, databases, and the front-end tooling around them.

You’ll have full end-to-end ownership - from planning and architecture to shipping and monitoring - alongside a small, senior team that ships to production multiple times a day. We follow lean principles, keep stories small and value-driven, and pair-program remotely. TDD is deeply embedded in how we work, so a genuine care for quality and testing is key to succeeding in this role.

This is a great fit if you value autonomy, a flat organisation, and a team that genuinely cares about what they build.

A typical day

  • You start the day with a quick stand-up with the team - then jump straight into building.

  • You might pair with a colleague, talk through ideas, and turn them into working code. From there, it’s about picking up the next piece of work, writing tests, and shipping to production - often the same day.

  • Throughout the week, you’ll work closely with your Product Owner to shape what comes next: refining ideas, grooming the backlog, and keeping things moving forward.

  • There’s space to reflect too - retros, knowledge sharing, and time to focus on your own development.

  • And on Fridays, the team gets together in person at VALO Hotel & Work Helsinki. Morning sauna is optional, but encouraged.

Tech stack

  • Languages: Node.js (JavaScript); .NET (C#) for legacy systems.

  • Cloud & Infra: AWS (Lambda, Batch, Fargate), Linux, IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation).

  • Data & Messaging: RDS (SQL), DocumentDB, S3, SQS.

  • Containers: Docker, ECS.

  • Tooling: GitHub, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Bash/Make.

  • Observability: Datadog.

  • Delivery: Fastly (CDN, VCL).

What we’re looking for

We don’t expect you to tick every box, but these are the kinds of things we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years in commercial software engineering, building and operating production-grade platforms end-to-end

  • Strong Node.js experience, along with experience designing and building cloud-native systems (AWS or other major cloud platforms)

  • Experience working with modern backend systems - including microservices, APIs, and database technologies (SQL and/or NoSQL)

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, containerisation, and working in Unix/Linux environments

  • A genuine passion for testing - TDD or a similar discipline in your day-to-day

  • A collaborative, self-starter mindset. You bring opinions and say them out loud, and are comfortable working in an English-speaking team

Nice to have

  • Microservice architecture design and implementation

  • Datadog

  • Some front-end experience for internal tooling

Why Songtradr, why now

We’re growing - organically and through acquisitions - and will continue to grow in the future. This is the moment where RSUs start to mean something real.

You’ll be one of the first engineers in our new Helsinki hub, helping shape the founding culture, with regular trips to London to collaborate with your team.

What you’ll get in return

  • Salary: €75,000-95,000 per year, depending on experience.

  • Equity: RSUs - real upside as the company continues to grow

  • Flexibility: Remote, core hours typically 10–18 Finnish time to overlap with the UK team

  • Growth: 15 hours per month dedicated to development - focused on learning that supports your work and helps shape how the team evolves

  • Culture: A small, senior, sauna-friendly Helsinki crew, plus an international team of musically-inclined people across 18 countries

Our values

  • Lead with Music. Our compass and our passion.

  • Perform as One Band. United by purpose and trust.

  • Own Your Voice. Listen deeply, speak honestly.

Ready to amplify your career?

Applications to this role will be reviewed continuously, and the position will be filled as soon as the right candidate is found. To apply, please send your CV or LinkedIn profile (no cover letter needed!) latest 10.05.2026.

Songtradr is an equal opportunities employer. You’re welcome here for who you are - no matter where you’re from, what you look like, or what’s playing in your headphones.
