Job Description

  • Lead production-floor workflow, capacity, material-flow, and resource-utilization studies using Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation.
  • Develop discrete-event simulation models and scenario logic covering production lines, equipment, operators, buffers, material handling, product routing, process logic, cycle times, and operational constraints.
  • Conduct what-if analysis, bottleneck analysis, line balancing, capacity studies, and automation assessments to optimize production processes and factory layouts.
  • Translate simulation outputs into practical recommendations for factory layout, production workflow, automation architecture, capacity improvement, and equipment investment.
  • Define machine connectivity and data requirements for new automation equipment, including PLC interfaces, equipment states, alarms, production counters, process parameters, quality results, and diagnostic information.
  • Coordinate the integration of machines with Ignition SCADA for equipment visualization, alarming, historical data collection, operational monitoring, and performance analysis.
  • Develop standardized machine tag structures, naming conventions, equipment models, and contextualized data aligned with Unified Namespace principles.
  • Support connectivity through approved industrial protocols and technologies, including OPC UA, MQTT, Sparkplug B, industrial Ethernet, and APIs.
  • Ensure automation suppliers provide integration-ready equipment with appropriate controls hardware, communication capability, interface documentation, data-point lists, network requirements, and test provisions.
  • Collaborate with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls, IT, OT, Cybersecurity, MES, and Quality teams to ensure the complete solution is secure, reliable, maintainable, and scalable.
  • Develop and execute verification plans for workflow performance, simulation accuracy, machine connectivity, SCADA visualization, tag behavior, alarm handling, historian data, communication recovery, and system integration.
  • Support FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning, qualification, ramp-up, troubleshooting, and handover of automation and connectivity solutions at manufacturing sites.
  • Develop reusable Tecnomatix simulation libraries, SCADA templates, connectivity standards, equipment data models, and engineering guidelines for future projects and multi-site deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master or PhD in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Computer Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college/university.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in smart manufacturing, factory automation, manufacturing systems, industrial digitalization, or automation engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, including discrete-event simulation, production workflow modeling, scenario planning, capacity analysis, bottleneck analysis, and process optimization.
  • Hands-on experience working directly with manufacturing operations and production-floor equipment, with the ability to troubleshoot issues across the physical machine, controls, connectivity, SCADA, and manufacturing-system layers.
  • Experience in factory automation, machine integration, PLCs, SCADA, and industrial communication protocols, with practical knowledge of Ignition, OPC UA, MQTT/Sparkplug, and industrial networking.
  • Knowledge and experience in Unified Namespace (UNS), IIoT, OT/IT integration, MES/MOM, and manufacturing data architecture.
  • Programming/scripting experience in SIMTalk and/or Python, with working knowledge of SQL and/or JavaScript. Experience with C#, VBA, or other programming languages is an advantage.
  • Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to translate production-floor challenges into scalable automation and digital manufacturing solutions.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, influencing, communication, project planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Team player who can effectively collaborate with Manufacturing, Controls, IT/OT, MES, Operations, Engineering, and external system integrators.
  • Able to adapt well in a dynamic manufacturing environment, learn emerging Industry 4.0 technologies, and work independently with minimal supervision.
