SALARY RANGE: $120,000-$140,000

Job Title: Senior Site Safety & Health Officer

Business Service Line: PACRIM

Reports To: Health & Safety Manager/Senior Program Manager/General Manager

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii. Various Islands.

As the Senior Site Safety and Health Officer, you will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing all safety and health aspects of our construction projects. Leveraging your extensive experience and expertise in safety practices, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our safety programs. Your leadership will establish and maintain safety as a top priority throughout our organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Safety Program Development:
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive safety programs and policies in strict compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Ensure alignment with industry best practices to elevate safety standards.
  2. Site Inspections:
    • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and unsafe practices.
    • Implement corrective actions promptly to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment.
  3. Safety Training:
    • Develop and deliver effective safety training programs for both employees and SSHO team.
    • Monitor training compliance and effectiveness, making improvements as needed.
  4. Incident Investigation:
    • Lead investigations of safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
    • Determine root causes and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  5. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay current with safety regulations and industry standards, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
    • Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  6. Safety Audits:
    • Conduct safety audits and assessments of project sites.
    • Identify areas for improvement and track progress toward enhanced safety performance.
  7. Emergency Response:
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response plans.
    • Conduct drills and exercises to ensure team readiness for emergency situations.
  8. Safety Communication:
    • Foster a culture of safety through effective communication.
    • Facilitate safety meetings and discussions to engage all stakeholders.
  9. Safety Reporting:
    • Prepare and present safety reports to senior leadership and project stakeholders.
    • Track and analyze safety performance data to drive continuous improvement.
  10. Safety Leadership:
    • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the safety team.
    • Promote a robust safety culture across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Environmental Science, or related field (Master's degree preferred), experience may be use to substitute education.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in safety management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to drive safety initiatives and foster a culture of safety.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and prolonged periods of site inspections shall be par for the course. This includes navigating construction sites to conduct safety inspections, which may involve walking long distances and standing for extended periods.
  • Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, or crawling may be required as part of conducting site assessments and identifying potential hazards.
  • Periodic lifting and transporting of project materials, safety equipment, or emergency response gear shall be emblematic of your commitment to tangible results and emergency preparedness.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respiratory protection, may be necessary as part of compliance with OSHA standards and ensuring personal safety while on construction sites.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and outdoor elements may occur during site inspections and emergency response drills.
  • Frequent utilization of hand and finger dexterity for tasks such as document handling, inputting safety data, and conducting safety assessments shall be second nature.
  • Occasional periods of sitting and working in an office setting with moderate noise levels shall encompass your professional sphere when conducting safety program development, safety reporting, and administrative tasks.
