Job Description

The Health and Safety Specialist leads and supports associates across all departments in the investigation, prevention, and continuous reduction of workplace injuries. This role takes a proactive and data-driven approach to managing safety risks, ensuring compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture. The position requires comprehensive analysis and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs), injury data, and WSIB claim costs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigate health and safety incidents/issues, prepare detailed reports, and lead the identification and implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate and complete data collection for incidents, KPIs, modified work conditions, and trends.
  • Analyze and report on KPIs weekly and monthly, providing actionable insights to leadership.
  • Lead WSIB claims management, including cost analysis, appeals, and proactive claims mitigation strategies.
  • Champion DENSO ergonomic initiatives to identify and reduce ergonomic risks through assessments and corrective actions.
  • Lead the workplace inspection process, ensuring timely identification of hazards and closure of corrective actions.
  • Facilitate the Early and Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) process for all injuries, including case management and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Identify training needs, develop cost-effective training plans, and implement verification methods to ensure compliance and competency.
  • Track and improve Health & Safety processes, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and corporate standards.
  • Lead compliance initiatives, including internal audits, gap assessments, and corrective action tracking.
  • Support Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities, including meeting facilitation and follow-up on recommendations.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills, training, and plan reviews.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through communication, engagement, and recognition programs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including participation in cross-functional projects and corporate initiatives.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a Health & Safety role.
  • Strong report writing and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Certifications and Experience:

  • The following certifications and experience will be considered strong assets:
  • Health & Safety specialist designations such as CRST, CRSP, or CSP
  • Certification or working knowledge of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management)
  • Certification in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) training
  • Demonstrated experience in ergonomic risk assessment and analysis

Range of Expected Annual Salary inclusive of discretionary annual bonus:$68,250 - $88,399
