We are looking for a Senior Service Engineer – Propulsion with a main responsibility in executing Field Service activities on propulsion systems in alignment with Wärtsilä’s quality standards.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong Field Service mindset who enjoys hands-on work and international exposure. You’ll act as a trusted technical expert for our customers, delivering high-quality results while traveling globally (up to ~80%), supported by structured planning and a strong team network.

The preferred locations for this position are Las Palmas or Valencia (Spain), but other locations within Spain may also be considered.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Service Engineer – Propulsion, you will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Performing mechanical maintenance and overhauls on propulsion equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and investigating faults in propulsion systems.
  • Supporting installation, commissioning, and testing of propulsion equipment.
  • Executing warranty and field service activities on-site.
  • Preparing detailed service work reports in line with company standards.
  • Communicating effectively with customers and internal Field Service stakeholders.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with QSHE guidelines and site procedures.
  • Following up on work progress and reporting to customers and internal teams.

Requirements for the position

  • Diploma or BSc degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical service, ideally in marine environments.
  • Proven experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of propulsion systems.
  • Good command of written and spoken English, as well as fluency in Spanish.
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally up to 80% of the time..

As an ideal candidate you might also have…

  • Experience with propulsion systems such as:
    • Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP)
    • Fixed Pitch Propellers (FPP)
    • Gearboxes
    • Thrusters (transverse or azimuth)
    • Waterjet systems
  • Strong hands-on and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in marine or shipyard environments.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Good reporting and technical documentation skills.
  • Cost awareness and focus on efficiency.
