Senior Self Driving System Fleet Issue Management Engineer

The SDS Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineering team is responsible for performing system level tests on our self-driving vehicles, primarily focused on the evaluation of the safety and performance for public road fleet operations. Within this team, the SDS Test Engineer will focus on developing and executing test plans targeting the autonomy behavior of the software stack for autonomous vehicles. The scope of testing will include software release testing, feature testing as well as tests to evaluate fleet-level safety and performance metrics.The Test Engineer will alsowork closely with the development teams in Germany and the US to evaluate the sufficiency of the V&V strategy for US deployment needs, and address monitor the sufficiency results of the simulation, bench, track and public road test plans for US fleet operations. The focus will be to create road test cases necessary for the validation of the US-based fleet.

Role Responsibilities

Main responsibilities

· Manage pre-release software public-road testing, as well as release candidate testing of all new software for US public roads

· Prioritize features for US release and execute test plans to verify and validate them against system requirements

· Determine pass/fail criteria for tests as necessary

· Aggregate and report status of tests that monitor and track progress of performance, safety, reliability, and other key attributes of the test fleet

· Document and troubleshoot US-specific test issues

· Interface closely with the fleet operations teams globally to document and address test issues

· Work closely with the development and test teams globally to identify and close gaps in requirements, scenario coverage, testing and more

· Understand, document, and communicate complex software and other technical issues at a sufficient level to assign resolution of the issue to the appropriate internal and/or external team

· Make a significant impact on the Test Engineering team’s achievements

Supporting responsibilities (20%)

· Collaborate with the global team to enhance processes, databases and tools for data analysis needed to support issue management and reporting

· Support internal developers and external suppliers on issue root cause identification and tracking to resolution

· Communicate Issue Management topics with leaders across the organization

· Educate teammates on the nuance of the AV system by becoming an expert on the SDS

· Mentor peers to ensure quality and consistency of test execution

Qualifications

Years of Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in a quality focused role in the development of complex, software-controlled systems.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or a related field - required

Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or a related field - desired

Skills:

· Technical leadership across a diverse team

· Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate across a large and global diverse team

· Proven self-starter mindset and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision

· Be able to handle rapidly changing priorities

· Proven track record of delivering high priority assignments efficiently

· Strong desire to learn new skills related to technology and software

Specialized Skills - Required:

· Experience in planning, developing and executing system test plans

· Ability to simplify highly complex problems into smaller, actionable solutions

· Experience with defect tracking systems (Jira or equivalent)

· Statistical methods for data analysis

· Strong foundation in systems engineering fundamentals and tools

· Knowledge of multimodal verification & testing validation fundamentals

Specialized Skills - Desired:

· Experience in developing and/or testing autonomous systems

· Engineering experience in the development of highly integrated systems (automotive, aerospace, robotics, etc.)

· Experience debugging complex software systems

· Application of test management tools and bug tracking

· Basic programming skills in Python, Bash, Java, C, C++, C#

· Knowledge of Linux & terminal command line interface

· Experience with requirements management and requirements-based testing

Work Flexibility:

· Schedule accommodation of working time zone differences between US and Germany when necessary

· Up to 15% travel between US locations (Belmont, CA and Austin, TX) and Europe (Munich / Wolfsburg, Germany)
