The Security Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of security systems, including alarms, surveillance cameras, and access control devices. This role ensures that all systems function effectively to protect people, property, and assets. The Security Technician reports to the VP of Facilities and works closely with Facilities, IT, and external vendors.

This role will be serving Cook, DuPage, McHenry, Lake, and Kankakee Counties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain consistent security baseline standards for Thresholds facilities, by facility type, in line with industry standards.
  • Install (in tandem with vendors), configure, and maintain security systems such as alarms, CCTV cameras, and access control devices.
  • Respond to service calls, diagnose issues, and perform necessary repairs/troubleshooting to restore system functionality.
  • Monitor and maintain access control systems across all sites including but not limited to 800+ security cameras, access control readers, intruder detection systems and alarm codes, fire alarm systems, and the key management system. This includes activating and deactivating Thresholds fobs, residential fobs, and actual physical keys.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors during installations, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installations, maintenance activities, and incident reports.
  • Retrieve and secure video footage or access logs for investigations in compliance with HIPAA and agency policies.
  • Travel to various sites as needed to provide technical support and ensure security standards are met.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical training and guidance to onsite staff on the operation of security and surveillance systems.
  • Assist in evaluating new security technologies and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Support procurement processes by providing technical specifications for security equipment.
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure network connectivity and integration of security systems.
  • Required to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends, evenings and holidays. Offers on-demand support as needed.
  • Enforce and execute routine audit protocols to safeguard sensitive and confidential information, including employee records, member health data, and security reports.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice, electronics, IT, or related field preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in security systems installation and maintenance.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), access control, and alarm systems.
  • Basic understanding of network infrastructure related to security systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to travel to any Thresholds location while engaged in work.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid driver’s license is required.
  • Daily access to a personal vehicle is required. Must obtain and maintain $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 bodily injury and liability insurance. Subject to validation every six months.
  • Manufacturer certifications in security systems
  • Familiarity with OSHA and HIPAA compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
