Job Description

At Optus, our role is to connect millions of Australians daily and securing that connection starts by maintaining the integrity of our security platforms. We're looking for a Senior Security Platform Engineer to lead the configuration standards, enforcement policy, and platform engineering decisions that underpin our proxy, endpoint, and email threat prevention systems.

This is not a platform administration role. This is an engineering-first position where you define the standard, drive the governance, and hold accountability for the security outcome while partnering with Technology and Infrastructure teams who lead day-to-day implementation.

You'll sit at the intersection of governance and technical depth, representing platform engineering at the Traffic Governance Board, translating complex governance decisions into detailed engineering requirements, and ensuring our enforcement platforms are configured to the highest standard across a multi-platform, SOCI-regulated environment.

Your day to day will consist of

  • Own and define configuration standards across our network filtering, endpoint protection, and email security solutions, setting the bar delivery teams implement against
  • Serve as a platform engineering liaison at the Traffic Governance Board, transforming governance decisions into detailed engineering requirements and change specifications
  • Define DLP enforcement requirements at the proxy and email layers, specifying how sensitivity labels flow from data protection governance into operational controls
  • Own the full MDM/MAM policy framework across Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android including compliance baselines, enrolment standards, and conditional access requirements
  • Produce production-grade runbooks, configuration standards, and platform documentation fit for both TI operational teams and ELT governance audiences and maintain audit-ready records to meet SOCI obligations

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • 5+ years of hands-on security platform engineering experience with direct ownership (not exposure) across gateway, endpoint protection, and email filtering security areas
  • Consistent track record of defining configuration standards and translating governance decisions into engineering requirements this role focuses on policy ownership instead of platform administration
  • Deep proxy expertise: URL filtering, SSL inspection, CASB integration, and DLP enforcement carried out on the proxy layer including how sensitivity labels flow into enforcement policy
  • Direct experience owning EDR configuration standards for Windows and macOS. Also responsible for MDM/MAM policies and DMARC enforcement across a multi-domain estate. Preferably in a SOCI-obligated or regulated environment.
  • Ability to operate credibly at governance forums, communicate clearly across technical and executive audiences, and maintain audit-ready configuration records

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Direct your own development and build future-ready skills with Optus U’s industry-focused micro-credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
