Job Description

Regions Hospital is hiring a Senior Security Officer. The Senior Security Officer performs all duties of a Security Officer while serving as a primary Field Training Officer (FTO), mobile patrol and response to ambulatory sites, or other specialized duties, as well as being an on-shift leader. This role provides advanced operational support, leads responses to high-risk incidents, and ensures consistent application of policies, procedures, and professional standards. Senior Officers mentor new and existing staff, deliver training during daily operations, and support the coordination and delivery of curriculum at the New Security Officer Training Academy. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
    AND
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in HealthPartners Security,
    OR
  • A two year degree in a relevant field, OR a relevant certification, OR equivalent experience in healthcare security, public safety, or emergency response

Licensure / Registration / Certification

  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
  • IAHSS Basic Certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions in high stress and emergent situations
  • Advanced deescalation and use of force decision making skills
  • Ability to train, coach, and evaluate Security Officers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic reporting systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a Field Training Officer, mobile Security resource, or other experience related to the specialization of the role
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and Environment of Care standards

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. (40%) – Patrol, Facility Security & Operational Support

  • Performs all duties of a Security Officer at an advanced level.
  • Conducts regular patrols, hazard assessments, and security system monitoring.
  • Builds strong relationships with staff and patients to identify safety concerns.

2. (20%) – Field Training & Staff Development (Primary FTO Role)

  • Serves as the primary Field Training Officer for new and existing Security Officers.
  • Provides hands on instruction in patrol, communication, safety, and emergency response.
  • Teaches report writing, documentation standards, and professional conduct.
  • Evaluates trainee performance, maintains training records, and communicates progress to leadership.
  • Supports curriculum development and training delivery at the New Security Officer Training Academy.
  • Reinforces expectations, policies, and best practices through daily coaching.

Or

20%) – Travel Time (Primary Mobile Patrol Role)

  • Travel between multiple assigned sites during a shift using a HealthPartners vehicle to provide mobile patrol, incident response, and security standby coverage.

  • Manage time and routing effectively to maintain responsiveness across a geographically distributed service area.

  • Remain available to support urgent or emerging security needs at various locations as operational demands require.

3. (20%) – Emergency & Threat Response Leadership

  • Leads responses to alarms, safety incidents, and high risk events.
  • Coordinates team-based interventions and ensures appropriate use of force decision making.
  • Conducts structured debriefings following incidents.
  • Responds to patient restraint situations and behavioral health events.
  • Provides on scene leadership until relieved by a Supervisor or higher authority.

4. (20%) – Documentation, Reporting & Policy Enforcement

  • Investigates theft, assault, and safety allegations.
  • Completes detailed incident reports and ensures documentation accuracy.
  • Reviews reports submitted by Officers and provides coaching as needed.
  • Enforces criminal and administrative violations, including citations, trespass paperwork, and citizen arrests.
