What is the focus of the role?

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Security Engineer to join our team and help drive its success into the Secure future. The Senior Security Engineer provides cyber security expertise in the analysis, assessment, development, and evaluation of security solutions and architectures to secure networks, applications, operating systems and databases in a multi-cloud hybrid model, by shifting the security left and making sure Security Auto-provisioning and Auto-remediation is in place. The Senior Security Engineer plays a critical role in defining and establishing the security pattern for all the container Kubernetes environments in Telstra.

The Role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Security Engineer to join our team and help drive its success into the Secure future.

The Senior Security Engineer provides cyber security expertise in the analysis, assessment, development, and evaluation of security solutions and architectures to secure networks, applications, operating systems and databases in a multi-cloud hybrid model, by shifting the security left and making sure Security Auto-provisioning and Auto-remediation is in place.


Key responsibilities

  • Define and operationalise, in collaboration with key stakeholders, appropriate security controls within solution architectures to protect Telstra and customer information, systems and network assets.
  • Drive the definition and governance of security architectures and corresponding security standards into major initiatives contained within Telstra’s strategic investment program.
  • Drive assessments and evaluations of emerging security capabilities to ensure architectural standards and capability roadmaps remain current and are business objective aligned.
  • Provide input into the creation and governance of security strategy, standards and frameworks to ensure a coherent and optimised overall security architecture that aligns with Telstra's security policies and standards.

Essential experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in working on Kubernetes or containerised environment.
  • 3 years’ experience as DevOps, SecDevOps engineer.
  • Projects end-to-end delivery with hands-on experience of CI/CD tool:
  • Detailed understanding of securing the end-to-end image/container lifecycle from image build to production deployment. Kubernetes and Docker security including container security assessment.
  • Understanding of Microservices Architecture.
  • Advanced DevOps principles, tools and the intersection with cloud architecture.
  • Strong Coding knowledge, including basic level in Python,Go lang.
  • Strong IaC skill: Terraform / Cloud Formation
  • Detailed understanding of Cloud security fundamentals, including cryptography, PKI and public/private keys and the cloud shared responsibility model.
  • Experience with the AWS/Azure/GCP cloud platform.
  • Understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) and SRE principles.
  • Understanding of OWASP top 10 vulnerabilities and remediation.
  • Stay current on emerging security threats, vulnerabilities and controls.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Adoption Framework, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, Zero Trust principals, AWS well Architected, Essential 8, etc.

Desirable:

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator
  • Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist
  • DevSecOps Engineering
  • AWS, Azure or GCP Security Speciality Certificate
  • Automation and Agentic AI
