Job Profile

The role will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Design and synthesize novel glycan based synthetic carbohydrate, lipid and peptide compounds
• Perform reactions on laboratory scale (mg to multi gram)
• Monitor reaction progress using TLC, LC-MS, NMR etc and interpret reaction monitoring data
• Purification of reaction products using standard techniques e.g. (automated) column chromatography, prep. HPLC, crystallization or distillation
• Perform compound analysis (e.g. TLC, LC-MS, 1H, 13C and 2D NMR, etc.) and interpret analytical data
• Document practical work using ELN and QMS (Electronic Lab Notebook)
• Perform general lab duties
• Deliver compounds suitable for pre-clinical development, toxicology and clinical studies under QMS
• Closely follow new scientific developments in the field of glycans, vaccines and therapeutics
• Look for alternative reaction conditions or synthetic pathways, optimize reaction conditions and processes for large scale manufacturing
• Present scientific work at internal and external meetings
• Interact and communicate with interdisciplinary team
• Write patents, scientific publications and technical packages
• Communicate with CRO’s, and CMC team functions
• Working under quality management system (QMS)

Requirements

• PhD and PostDoc in synthetic organic chemistry
• Experience in glycan synthesis and characterization
• At least 3-4 years of Industrial experience at the previous level
• People management experience
• Attitude for innovation and problem solving
• Knowledge of field specific software/data bases (e.g. ChemDraw, SciFinder, Reaxys, computational chemistry tools)
• Hands-on attitude and ability to work efficiently and independently
• High level of creativity, resilient and service oriented
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary team
• Safety first attitude
• Fluent in English and German
