Senior School Admissions Officer (BMA)

Grade D - £45,091 – £53,460

Working 36.5 hours per week
Birmingham City Council is seeking an experienced professional to lead the delivery of school admissions complaints, appeals and budget services within a complex statutory environment.
The role involves ensuring compliance with admissions legislation, managing appeals and complaints activity, challenging non‑compliance by schools, and representing the local authority at independent appeal hearings You will also support the Head of Service with service planning, performance reporting and improvement activity affecting vulnerable children and young people.
This is a high‑responsibility role requiring resilience, credibility and the ability to operate confidently under pressure.
Key responsibilities including leading and managing the relevant school admissions' functions and related staff and service performance, ensuring statutory compliance, providing authoritative advice on complex admissions matters.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in a statutory education environment, ideally within school admissions or a related service, and will demonstrate strong knowledge of the relevant legislation, experience in managing services, confidence dealing with complex, sensitive and contested cases, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and professional resilience and sound judgement
