The Opportunity

Join Hitachi Energy and play a key role in delivering cutting-edge power transmission solutions that enable the global energy transition. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced SCADA commissioning professional to work on large-scale, complex HVDC projects that connect power systems across regions and countries.

You will take a leading role in bringing advanced control and protection systems to life—engaging directly with customers, driving commissioning activities on site, and contributing to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure. In this position, you will collaborate with a highly skilled, international team while continuing to develop your expertise in HVDC technology and expanding your impact across some of the most innovative and high-profile energy projects in the world.

HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a key product group within Hitachi Energy, developing, manufacturing, and delivering DC transmission systems to a global market. HVDC technology is used to transmit energy over long distances, enable power transmission via submarine cables, and connect different power systems.

The quality and innovation of the engineering in our products, systems, and service offerings keep our customers ahead. As part of HVDC, you will challenge and expand your expertise by developing solutions for customers worldwide while working with market-leading technologies.

We are now looking for a seasoned professional with at least 5 years of experience in the design and commissioning of HVDC stations or AC substation control and protection systems. In this role, you will be part of the HVDC unit, contributing to the later stages of system testing at Hitachi Energy premises. You will lead SCADA commissioning activities at customer sites, support the handover and trial operation of HVDC links, and maintain direct engagement with customers.

As a SCADA Expert – Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will apply your expertise in AC substation protection while developing further competence in HVDC Control and Protection technology. You will work on some of the most exciting projects in the energy sector and be part of a supportive, diverse team committed to Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity.

Your Responsibilities

  • Organize and execute testing and commissioning activities, including responsibility for coordinating test equipment

  • Lead technical discussions with clients and their consultants

  • Prepare commissioning test plans and instructions, and drive customer discussions before and during commissioning

  • Witness supplier FATs and perform SCADA system commissioning, or lead team members in doing so

  • Participate in Factory System Testing (FST) activities

  • Stay informed of scope, work division, and delivery to ensure contractual commitments are met

  • Identify and communicate changes to the Commissioning Manager

  • Support tender activities related to commissioning scope

  • Participate in and analyze system disturbances during commissioning and operation

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a specialization in Power Systems

  • Experience in SCADA testing and IED testing

  • Experience in designing substation secondary circuits and programming protection relays (protection coordination studies are an advantage)

  • Experience in AC substation commissioning (HVDC experience is a plus)

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 104, and DNP3.0

  • Experience with MicroSCADA and knowledge of MACH is advantageous

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach others

  • Ability to work within relevant standards and regulations while managing multiple activities pragmatically
