The Senior Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth through strategic sales of rooms, events with guestrooms, meeting/catering needs, and local/social catering business. This position plays a critical role in achieving and exceeding budgeted revenue goals, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, and strengthening long-term client relationships to increase repeat business. The Senior Sales Manager will proactively identify and solicit new opportunities, negotiate and close business, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients.
This role requires an energetic, results-oriented professional with strong leadership skills, a passion for 5-star service, and the ability to mentor and collaborate with junior sales team members. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both a strategic mindset and meticulous attention to detail, while consistently delivering exceptional client experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver the highest level of customer service with prompt (within 24 hours) responses to all inquiries, calls, and leads.
• Proactively solicit, negotiate, and secure new business using a strategic, data-driven approach to target comp set accounts, untapped market segments, and existing client opportunities.
• Consistently maintain a full schedule of client outreach, including property visits, external calls, networking, and virtual meetings.
• Build and sustain strong professional business relationships; represent the property at networking events, civic organizations, and industry associations.
• Translate hotel business strategies into actionable individual sales plans to meet or exceed goals.
• Maintain accurate, timely revenue and pipeline data in SFAWeb and CI/TY to ensure reliable forecasting and reporting.
• Oversee the preparation and accuracy of contracts, proposals, and event orders.
• Attend and contribute to BEO and departmental meetings; collaborate closely with Catering and Operations teams to ensure flawless event execution.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for groups onsite; greet groups upon arrival and remain visible throughout their event to ensure client satisfaction.
• Conduct timely post-event follow-ups with clients to reinforce relationships, gather feedback, and resolve any concerns.
• Partner with internal departments to communicate client feedback and ensure seamless billing, collection, and reconciliation of accounts.
• Support team members by leading site inspections, mentoring junior managers, and sharing best practices.
• Assist DOSM with reporting, sales initiatives, training, and sales show participation as needed.
• Uphold professional standards, representing the property with poise and aligning actions with company values at all times.
• Any other duties or activities as assigned by the DOSM or General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred (High School Diploma/GED required).
• 5+ years of progressive hotel sales experience in group rooms, catering, and/or social catering with a proven record of exceeding revenue goals.
• Strong negotiation and closing skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
• Expertise in developing and finalizing group and local/social Event Orders.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Marriott systems (CI/TY, SFAWeb, Light Speed, MARSHA) highly preferred.
• Highly organized with excellent time management, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Composure and resilience under pressure with a flexible, “can-do” attitude.
• Demonstrated ability to lead by example, mentor junior team members, and contribute to a culture of collaboration and high performance.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by business demands.
• Strong drive to exceed guest expectations with an uncompromising approach to service excellence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this role, the Senior Sales Manager is regularly required to move throughout the facility; stand for extended periods during events; and communicate effectively in person and by phone. The role may require both indoor and outdoor work, as well as travel as needed. The majority of time will be spent in an office setting with minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
