As Senior Sales Executive, you will be at the forefront of powering the next generation of banks, fintechs, digital lenders, MNOs and super apps with world-class issuer processing and programme management solutions. This is a high-impact, growth-focused role for a commercially driven payments expert who thrives on originating and closing complex infrastructure deals, navigating regulatory and scheme environments, and unlocking new revenue across diverse African markets. The Senior Sales Executive – Africa is responsible for driving new business acquisition across the region, targeting banks, fintechs, digital lenders, MNOs, super apps, and embedded finance platforms seeking issuer processing and programme management solutions. This role will focus on originating, developing, and closing complex payments infrastructure deals, including card issuing, multi-currency programmes, BIN sponsorship models, and scheme integrations. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of the SA & African payments landscape and understands the regulatory, scheme, and operational nuances of launching and scaling issuing programmes.

New Business Opportunities:

  • Identify, target, and close new issuer processing and programme management opportunities across Africa.
  • Develop and execute territory/account acquisition strategies aligned to regional growth objectives.
  • Create new business relationships and opportunities.
  • Find and develop new prospects for Paymentology products.

Pipeline Development:

  • Work closely with the Regional Director to target key markets and prospects.
  • Develop and grow sales pipeline with prospects and targets.
  • Diagnose prospect needs and advise on the appropriate product or service solutions.
  • Accurately report on the sales pipeline on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain accurate CRM reporting and sales forecasting.
  • Manage sales cycle from prospecting to closure.
  • Consistently meet or exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets.

Negotiation and Contract Management:

  • Manage complex commercial negotiations.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and finance teams as needed.
  • Take responsibility for sales tasks, including client contract signature.
  • Develop and negotiate commercial proposals and pricing models.
  • Lead RFP/RFI responses.
  • Ensure smooth transition from signed deal to implementation.

Sales Targets:

  • Execute sales strategies to achieve revenue targets.
  • Grow Paymentology’s customer base in the region.

Market Intelligence & Strategy

  • Maintain deep understanding of African issuing and fintech trends, Regulatory changes, Scheme mandates and Competitive landscape
  • Provide market feedback to Product and Strategy teams to inform roadmap development.
  • Represent Paymentology at Industry events, conferences and regulatory forums

Requirements

What it takes to succeed:

  • 10+ years of Business Development experience in the fintech or payments space
  • Knowledge of the cards and payments industry, and the issuing industry in particular.
  • Solution Sales experience and proven capability in managing complex sales processes
  • Ability to qualify leads and to identify key stakeholders who will make the buying decisions
  • Detail-oriented, able to get to grips with the intricacies and complexities of the payments market and the economics which drive the business.
  • Self-starter, able to define own priorities and deliver projects
  • Able to work effectively with senior level stakeholders, both internal and external to the business.
  • Strong commercial acumen and financial modelling skills.
  • Resilient mindset, ability to work under pressure, and focus on successful outcomes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success closing complex B2B financial services deals.
  • Strategic and consultative selling skills
