This is a unique opportunity to shape and embed WorkCover’s WHS governance capability at an enterprise level. Reporting into a senior leadership environment, you will play a key role in developing and maturing the organisation’s safety governance framework, ensuring robust controls, clear accountabilities and strong officer due diligence across the business.
With a strong governance and compliance focus, you will oversee how safety risks are identified, assessed and managed, providing critical oversight of control effectiveness, assurance activities and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with Legal, Risk and operational stakeholders to navigate complex and often sensitive matters, respond to regulator enquiries and complaints, and ensure the organisation can confidently demonstrate compliance with legislative obligations.
A significant aspect of the role will involve translating complex legislation, risk and assurance information into clear, evidence-based advice and reporting for senior leaders, the Executive Leadership Team and Board-level forums. Operating in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and high-profile deadlines, you will influence enterprise-wide outcomes while building practical governance processes that support accountability, transparency and continuous improvement.
You’re a senior governance, risk, compliance or assurance professional with experience building, managing or maturing governance frameworks and control environments in complex organisations. While a WHS background would be highly regarded, it’s not essential. What’s most important is your ability to assess risk, evaluate the effectiveness of controls, manage regulatory expectations, and provide practical, evidence-based advice that stands up to executive, Board and regulator scrutiny. You are comfortable navigating complex legislation, governance obligations and competing priorities, and can confidently translate technical or legal concepts into clear, concise written reports and recommendations.
You build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups and are adept at influencing outcomes without formal authority. With strong judgement, attention to detail and a calm approach under pressure, you thrive in environments where deadlines are tight, issues are high-risk and the work has enterprise-wide impact. Experience working closely with Legal, Risk and senior leaders, along with exposure to Board reporting, assurance activities, compliance frameworks or regulatory engagement, will position you for success in this role.
