About Westpac Europe GmbH: Westpac Europe GmbH (WEG) is Westpac’s European banking entity, headquartered in Frankfurt, and regulated under German and European supervisory frameworks. WEG plays a key role in supporting the bank’s international institutional strategy, delivering treasury, risk, compliance, and client solutions activities across the region. The entity operates within a strong governance and regulatory environment, working closely with global teams to manage balance sheet, liquidity, and risk while ensuring full alignment with local regulatory requirements and group standards

How will I help

The position supports the Head of Risk in all aspects of WEG's risk control function and the overarching risk management framework, including the ICT risk management framework. The role provides hands-on support in risk control and oversight of WEG, including the identification, assessment, monitoring, and steering of financial and non-financial risks, including ICT-related risks. The role supports the implementation and management of WEG's risk management framework, policies, and procedures, and helps ensure that WEG's risks remain within appetite.

The role also acts as a key contributor to the ICT Risk Control Function established under DORA, supporting the Head of Risk in managing and overseeing all ICT-related risks as a second line of defence function.

Key Accountabilities

Risk Management Framework and Strategy
Support the Head of Risk in maintaining and enhancing the risk framework, including risk strategy, appetite, and policies. Contribute to the definition of the overall risk profile, risk inventory, and early risk indicators, ensuring alignment with business strategy and regulatory expectations.

Risk Monitoring, Reporting and ICAAP
Monitor the bank’s risk profile, risk limits, and risk bearing capacity. Support the development and ongoing enhancement of ICAAP, including stress testing, and contribute to high quality risk reporting and governance processes.

Operational Risk
Assist in the identification, assessment, and management of operational risks, including ESG considerations. Ensure timely escalation of key risk issues and support the continuous improvement of risk processes.

Regulatory Returns and Credit Risk Support
Support regulatory reporting requirements and work closely with Credit Risk teams to monitor portfolio performance and maintain asset quality. Contribute to reviews of credit proposals and new product initiatives

ICT Risk Control Function
Support the oversight and development of ICT risk management in line with DORA and regulatory expectations. This includes risk assessments, control effectiveness, key risk indicators, and reporting to senior management.

Deputisation and Governance
Act as deputy to the Head of Risk when required and support senior governance forums, including participation in Management Board activities.

What do I need

  • Strong experience in risk management in a financial institution.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements according to KWG, MaRisk, DORA, BAIT, and related rules.
  • Understanding of ICT risk management principles and digital operational resilience requirements.
  • Experience with regulatory reporting frameworks (e.g., AnaCredit, ICAAP, operational risk reporting).
  • German and English full professional language proficiency (written and oral).
