Senior Risk Manager
Location: Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane
About the role:
The Senior Risk Manager - Australia is a member of the APAC Risk Leadership Team, accountable for the implementation of, and compliance with, the Apex Risk Management Framework across Australia. The role ensures timely, accurate and insightful risk reporting and briefings to senior management in Australia that enables the business to effectively manage their material risks to within the risk appetite.
Job Responsibilities
Proactively provide expert advice, support and challenge to the Country Head Australia and its Operational teams in the management of risk and controls in Australia, supporting them to ensure risks are identified, mitigated and managed in a proportionate and transparent manner.
Actively brief the Country Head Australia on risk and control matters occurring across Apex, taking forward appropriate actions if Australia is potentially exposed.
Provide timely, consistent and simplified risk and controls management expertise for Australia, promoting ownership and accountability.
Work with staff in Australia to implement the Apex Risk Management Framework, including Risk Assessment and Policies and Procedures, in a proportionate and pragmatic manner, escalating where not fit for purpose or challenges in delivering to milestone dates.
Work with stakeholders to ensure quality Business Continuity plans are in place and tested, all in line with Global Policy.
Work with staff in Australia to implement the Apex Risk Governance model, including Client Acceptance and Local Audit and Risk Committees, taking into consideration appropriate local regulation.
Provide risk advice, challenge and input to Client Acceptance governance in Australia and ensure adherence to policy and process.
Provide day to day incident management support and delivery of the supporting processes, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures, including timely escalation as required.
Champion risk based/risk appetite thinking and considerations in business strategy and commercial decisions, promoting a no surprises, no blame culture.
Develop and maintain an appropriate level of understanding of local product and service offerings, processes and controls to ensure Risk Management activities meet and exceed service level expectations of clients.
Provide input to the development of, understanding of and implementation of all relevant policies, procedures, and handbooks.
Work with Group Risk Reporting, contributing to the development and production of periodic Risk Reporting for the local Boards and local and group level Audit and Risk Committees.
Work with Group Risk Reporting to provide insight and timely trend analysis to identify potential emerging issues, sharing with other APAC Risk Managers where appropriate.
Work with Group Risk Framework and Operations to provide relevant data and MI to support Risk Assessment process, identify and assess Risk exposures, controls and control gaps, and Residual Risk exposures against Risk Appetite.
Work with Operations to support local remediation of global or local issues.
Skills Required:
7+ years Financial Services Risk Management experience
Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks
Hands on knowledge and experience with superannuation funds would be advantageous
A proven track record of implementing effective controls, mitigating complex risks, and driving strategic decision-making across diverse business environments
Strong analytical and critical thinking combined with the ability to make independent recommendations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong stakeholder management
Business acumen to understand the business needs
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, for liaising with and influencing senior management
Flexible in work approach due to nature of the role to meet client deliverables
