Job Description

Russell Investments is seeking an experienced Senior Risk Manager to join the EMEA Risk team in London. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing independent oversight and challenge across the firm's UK and European fund management activities, ensuring risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored, and managed.

Reporting to the Head of EMEA Risk, the Senior Risk Manager will partner closely with Portfolio Management, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Legal and senior business stakeholders to support a strong risk culture and ensure compliance with regulatory expectations across the asset management and funds business. Key elements of the role include:

  • Providing second-line risk oversight of UK and European regulated entities, funds, and MiFID activities.

  • Leading risk assessments across operational, investment, outsourcing, and technology domains.

  • Supporting the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of key risks affecting EMEA funds and regulated entities.

  • Preparing and presenting risk reporting, risk assessments and thematic reviews to senior management, relevant committees, and Boards.

  • Preparing the ICARA alongside key stakeholders.

  • Managing operational events in line with Global Event Policy.

  • Maintaining the EMEA Risk Register in line with EMEA Risk Managemen Framework.

  • Overseeing and challenging Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), incident management, issue remediation, and control effectiveness reviews.

  • Providing independent review and challenge of new products, fund launches, strategic initiatives, outsourcing arrangements, and regulatory change programmes.

  • Supporting the ongoing development and enhancement of the EMEA risk management framework, policies, and governance processes.

  • Monitoring emerging regulatory and industry developments impacting the firm.

  • Partnering with business stakeholders to strengthen risk awareness and promote effective risk management practices across the organisation.

  • Contributing to operational resilience, business continuity, outsourcing, and third-party risk oversight activities as required.

Regulatory & Business conduct

Relationship Management

  • Partnering closely with EMEA wide stakeholders, to identify, assess and communicate risks across UK entities and EU entities when required.

  • Serving as a regional liaison for risk management in EMEA, while collaborating closely with global colleagues in Dublin, Seattle, New York, and Mumbai.

Leadership & Management

  • Representing the risk function in committees, governance forums and cross-functional working groups.

  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Risk Advisory

  • Providing risk advice to stakeholders within EMEA as required.

Forward looking Risk Horizon

  • Providing up to date summaries of risk posture and emerging risks as required.

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent.

  • Experience in risk management, audit, compliance, or operational risk within asset management, investment management, or financial services.

  • Strong understanding of UCITS, AIFMD, MiFID and broader UK/EU regulatory frameworks applicable to investment management firms and funds.

  • Experience in completing RCA’s (Risk Control Assessments) beneficial.

  • Experience providing risk oversight of regulated funds, investment processes, outsourcing arrangements, and operational risk frameworks.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and translate findings into practical recommendations.

  • Ability to influence and challenge stakeholders effectively while maintaining strong working relationships.

  • Experience with risk management and governance systems (e.g., MetricStream, Archer or equivalent GRC platforms) is advantageous.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a global, matrixed organisation.

  • Proven ability to communicate key risks in a clear, concise, and impactful way.

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with investment professionals and influence decision-making.

  • Proactive, enthusiastic and self-starter.
