
The Senior Revenue Cycle Project & Analytics Analyst (Epic) serves as a strategic leader and internal consultant responsible for optimizing revenue cycle performance across multiple operational areas through analytics, system design, and cross-functional project leadership.
This role functions as a bridge between Revenue Cycle operations, IT, and Finance, driving enterprise-wide initiatives that improve financial outcomes, operational efficiency, and system utilization within the Epic platform.
The position operates with a high degree of autonomy, influencing system design, workflow optimization, and prioritization of organizational initiatives. While not responsible for direct reports, this individual will lead complex, high-impact projects and may function in a project manager–like capacity for revenue cycle systems and workflows.
Drive initiatives that impact multiple service lines, departments, and revenue streams across the organization
Identify and execute initiatives with measurable financial impact (e.g., revenue lift, cost reduction, cash acceleration)
Lead revenue cycle projects involving Epic applications, including system optimization, workflow redesign, and new functionality implementation
Manage full project lifecycle: scope, timeline development, build coordination, testing, go-live support, and post-implementation optimization
Coordinate with Epic IT analysts, operational leaders, and clinical departments to ensure successful project execution
Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and executive-level reporting to support visibility and decision-making
Ensure alignment with Epic best practices and organizational governance
Identify and implement improvements across Epic revenue cycle workflows, including:
Front-end: Scheduling (Cadence), Registration (Prelude), Insurance verification, Authorization workflows
Mid-cycle: Charging, coding workflows, DNFB management (HIM), Charge Router, CDI
Back-end: Billing (Resolute HB/PB), Claims, Payment Posting, Denial Management
Partner with operational leaders to improve key performance indicators such as:
DNFB days
AR days
Clean claim rate
Denial rate and overturn rate
Point-of-service collections
Analyze revenue cycle performance using Epic reporting tools (e.g., Reporting Workbench, Radar dashboards, Clarity, Caboodle, SlicerDicer)
Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor financial and operational KPIs
Perform root cause analyses on denials, charge lag, claim edits, and reimbursement trends including utilization of AI tools, where necessary.
Translate complex Epic data into actionable recommendations for leadership
Collaborate with Epic analysts to define build requirements, enhancements, and workflow changes
Participate in system upgrades, SU releases, and optimization efforts
Ensure proper configuration of WQs (workqueues), edits, and rules to support efficient workflows
Assist in prioritization of Epic change requests through governance committees
Serve as a liaison between Revenue Cycle, IT (Epic teams), Compliance, and Finance, aligning operational needs with system capabilities
Translate business and operational requirements into Epic system design and enhancements, functioning similarly to a product manager for revenue cycle workflows
Participate in prioritization and planning of revenue cycle system enhancements, balancing competing stakeholders needs to drive enterprise-aligned solutions
Facilitate cross-functional meetings, workflow design sessions, and optimization workshops to advance initiatives and support decision-making
Drive accountability across teams without direct supervisory authority to ensure progress and results
Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes clearly to senior leadership
Ensure Epic workflows align with CMS, payer regulations, and organizational policies
Support audit readiness, including coding, billing compliance, and documentation integrity initiatives
Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Business, Finance, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience will be considered.
Master's degree (MHA, MBA) preferred
6+ years of progressive experience in revenue cycle, including system optimization, analytics, or informatics
3+ years of experience working with Epic revenue cycle applications
Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional projects in an Epic environment
Experience with both hospital billing (HB) and/or professional billing (PB) strongly preferred
Epic certification or proficiency in one or more revenue cycle modules OR demonstrated advanced proficiency in Epic revenue cycle applications.
If certification is not currently held, must obtain Epic certification within 6-12 months of hire
Familiarity with Epic reporting tools (SQL, Clarity, Caboodle, Reporting Workbench
Advanced expertise in Epic revenue cycle architecture and workflows
Advanced analytical skills (Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or Epic reporting tools)
Ability to interpret Epic data structures and reporting outputs
Expertise in revenue cycle KPIs and financial performance improvement strategies
Exceptional project management and organizational skills
Ability to influence, lead meetings, and drive results without formal authority
Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Improvement in clean claim rate and first-pass resolution
Reduction in DNFB and charge lag
Decrease in denial volume and increased overturn rates
AR days improvement (total and by payer class)
Successful delivery of Epic optimization projects on time and within scope
Measurable ROI from Epic enhancements
Hybrid or office-based
Participation in after-hours support during Epic go-lives or major upgrades may be required
