Job Summary

As a Senior Retail Manager at Butler University, you will lead the daily operations of a dynamic campus retail dining program, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, operational excellence, and strong financial performance. This role is ideal for an energetic, hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about developing teams, driving customer satisfaction, and managing all aspects of a retail food service operation.

The Senior Retail Manager is responsible for leading daily retail operations, driving sales performance, developing team leadership capabilities, manage inventory and purchasing processes, maintain financial accountability, and ensuring execution of company standards. This role partners closely with the General Manager to achieve business objectives through operational excellence, customer satisfaction, workforce development, and financial accountability. The Retail Senior Manager serves as the primary leader for department managers and frontline teams, ensuring a safe, productive, and customer-focused environment. The successful candidate will be highly organized, technology-savvy, and comfortable managing budgets, forecasting, and operational reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee daily retail dining operations to ensure efficient service and a positive customer experience.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, coach, and develop hourly team members.
  • Manage inventory, purchasing, receiving, and product ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels and minimize waste.
  • Monitor and control food, labor, and operating costs while meeting financial objectives.
  • Assist with budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain cash controls, payroll records, and other operational documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and sanitation standards.
  • Utilize technology and computer systems to manage reporting, ordering, inventory, scheduling, and communication.
  • Support the planning and execution of campus events and special functions.
  • Collaborate with culinary and marketing teams to implement new programs, promotions, and retail initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with university partners, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Analyze operational performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in hospitality, Food Service Management, Business, Culinary Arts, or a related field preferred.
  • Three or more years of progressive food service management or retail dining leadership experience.
  • Experience managing inventory, purchasing, ordering systems, and budgets.
  • Strong financial acumen, including cost control, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, email, internet applications, and food service management systems.
  • Knowledge of retail food service operations, merchandising, food safety, sanitation, and customer service best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team development, and coaching skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • ServSafe® Certification preferred
