Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Residential Property Lawyer to join our client's busy, client-focused residential property team on a remote working basis. This senior role is suited to an established qualified solicitor or legal professional with substantial residential conveyancing experience who can manage complex transactions, provide high standards of client care and mentor junior colleagues. The successful candidate will take ownership of a varied caseload of sales, purchases, remortgages, transfers of equity, leasehold matters and more complex matters, ensure compliant and audit‑ready files, and contribute to service and process improvements.

Salary from £50,000

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and progress a complex caseload of residential property matters from initial instruction through to completion and post‑completion registration, ensuring matters progress in line with firm procedures, client expectations and regulatory requirements.

  • Act as lead fee earner on higher‑value and legally complex transactions, provide clear legal advice to clients on conveyancing issues, risk and timescales, and take responsibility for tactical case decisions.

  • Draft, review and approve conveyancing documentation including sale and purchase contracts, transfer deeds, mortgage deeds, completion statements and complex post‑completion forms; ensure accuracy and appropriate use of precedents.

  • Provide expert liaison with lenders, estate agents, other solicitors, surveyors and third parties; lead negotiations where required and resolve complex requisitions on title, boundary and title defects.

  • Ensure robust file management and compliance: open and close matters correctly, maintain accurate attendance notes and file records, and ensure files are audit‑ready in accordance with firm and regulatory standards.

  • Undertake and oversee client identity verification, anti‑money laundering (AML) checks and source of funds enquiries; escalate suspicious matters and maintain comprehensive compliance records.

  • Prepare and manage completion statements, calculate and supervise receipt and disbursement of completion monies and ensure trust accounting compliance in line with SRA or relevant regulatory rules.

  • Support and supervise the preparation and submission of registration applications to the Land Registry and ensure timely post‑completion formalities are completed accurately.

  • Provide mentoring, supervision and technical support to junior solicitors, paralegals and conveyancers; conduct case reviews, provide feedback and contribute to training activities.

  • Identify and lead on process and technology improvements within the conveyancing team, update precedents and support the implementation of practice management systems to improve efficiency and client service.

  • Assist with business development activities including client relationship management, adviser referrals and supporting fee earner-led initiatives to grow the residential property practice.

  • Accurately record time and disbursements, support billing processes and provide information required for matter budgeting and fee notes.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Qualified solicitor or equivalent with substantial post‑qualification experience predominantly in residential conveyancing; proven ability to manage complex and high‑value transactions with minimal supervision.

  • Extensive knowledge of the conveyancing process including searches, mortgage transactions, land registration, transfers of equity, leasehold matters and post‑completion formalities.

  • Strong technical drafting skills and high attention to detail when preparing legal documents, completion statements and registration applications.

  • Excellent client care and communication skills with the ability to manage client expectations, provide clear legal advice and handle sensitive or escalated issues professionally.

  • Sound understanding of AML, client identification and source of funds checks, together with trust accounting requirements and regulatory compliance obligations.

  • Proven experience supervising and mentoring junior team members, providing constructive feedback and supporting their technical development.

  • Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office and experience of case management systems, online searches and Land Registry applications; comfortable adopting new conveyancing technologies and process tools.

  • Organised, proactive and able to prioritise competing demands in a remote working environment while maintaining productivity and team collaboration.

Qualifications and additional information:

  • Specialist residential property qualifications are desirable but not essential.

  • Previous experience working remotely or managing a remote caseload preferred; strong self‑management skills and ability to maintain communication across a dispersed team.

  • Full training and support will be provided with opportunities for continuing professional development and career progression within the firm.

  • Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and discussed with candidates.
