Senior Residential Counselor

An Overview
The Senior Residential Counselor (SRC) provides supervision of residential counselors to ensure the individuals who live in the home are provided with quality care, supports and instruction in daily living skills based on the individual’s treatment plan. The SRC provides oversight of daily operations and service provision to individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders and/or a co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. Oversees program management of the home by maintaining resident records in accordance with HIPPA standards, assures program site is clean, safe and in good repair. The SRC monitors compliance with State licensing, City and department policies and regulations.
What You Should Bring
The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge of Intellectual Disability, mental illness, and substance abuse and experience in providing behavioral health services to these populations. Thorough knowledge of City, State, and Federal policies and procedures, rules and license requirements for program operations or the ability to acquire such knowledge; thorough knowledge of person-centered practices; ability to assist in developing and implementing program policies, procedures, and plans; ability to provide supervision, guidance, assistance, and training to residential staff; ability to implement and monitor Federal and State standards for quality assurance compliance; ability to establish and maintain complete client records; good knowledge of best practice standards in residential services for adults with Intellectual Disability, substance abuse treatment; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

About the Department
The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders.
Two-Year College Degree; two years experience working with clients with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, Substance Abuse Disorder or domestic violence in a residential setting and supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Employees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of their residence.
Four year college degree in Human Service or a related field; two years working in a residential setting with clients diagnosed with substance use disorder(s), serious mental illness and/or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. One year of supervisory experience. Possession of a QMHP-A License.
This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver’s license.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM with occasional evenings, weekends, holidays.
