The Opportunity

A unique opportunity exists for an accomplished Senior Geotechnical Resident Engineer to join the Owner’s site supervision team for the construction of a major earth fill dam project in the Philippines.

The project comprises a 50 m high earth fill dam with a storage capacity of approximately 15 million m³, incorporating foundation treatment, quick lime soil stabilization, geogrid reinforcement, geomembrane systems and associated hydraulic structures. The project is being delivered under an EPC contract in a tropical environment with significant rainfall.

We are seeking an experienced professional with strong geotechnical construction and Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) expertise who can provide technical leadership, manage a multidisciplinary supervision team, and work collaboratively with the EPC Contractor to ensure safe, timely and quality delivery.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Resident Engineer, you will serve as the Owner’s senior site representative for all geotechnical and earthworks activities and will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing Assistant Resident Engineers, inspectors and quality personnel.
  • Providing technical leadership for construction of the embankment dam and associated works.
  • Leading Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) activities and ensuring compliance with project specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Reviewing and recommending approval of:
    • Method Statements;
    • Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs);
    • Temporary Works and construction procedures;
    • Earthworks placement and compaction methodologies;
    • Geosynthetic installation procedures;
    • Foundation treatment and ground improvement procedures;
    • Dewatering and diversion arrangements.
  • Monitoring contractor performance, quality, safety and progress.
  • Resolving technical issues in conjunction with designers and specialist consultants.
  • Preparing technical reports and recommendations.
  • Supporting a collaborative and safety-focused project culture.

About You

You are likely to possess:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering preferred).
  • Professional Engineer registration or equivalent.
  • Minimum 20 years’ experience in civil and geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience in construction supervision and Construction Quality Assurance (CQA).
  • Strong knowledge of embankment construction, moisture conditioning, compaction control and geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Experience with soil improvement and stabilization using quick lime or similar techniques.
  • Proven ability to review contractor methodologies and temporary works.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
