Job Description

Position Title: Senior Residence Worker
Classification: Grid 12
Reports To: Program Manager
Wage: $29.17 - $33.49

Assists the Program Manager in providing orientation, training, work direction, and guidance to Residence Workers. You will identify the Person Served strengths, needs, preferences, and risks and support the development and implement short-term plans that include goals, objectives, and timelines using a trauma-informed approach. You will assist clients to live successfully and ensure their physical, emotional, social, and educational needs are meet. Finally, you will assist the Person Served through enhancement of their quality of life through activities of daily living and the development of life skills.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years of recent related experience
  • Relevant Diploma in the human/social services field
  • Or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • First Aid Level 1
  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract
  • Obtain and Maintain Centralized Services HUB Clearance (provided by organization)
  • Obtain and Maintain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check (provided by organization)

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Assists the supervisor in providing orientation, training, work direction and guidance to residence workers by performing duties such as clarifying program policies, reviewing work and scheduling residence workers. Provides input to residence workers’ performance evaluations.
  • May oversee the operation of the residence in the absence of the supervisor or as directed.
  • Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal Service Plan) for individuals living in a residence. Documents, implements and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
  • Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance and implements personal service plans.
  • Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting.
  • Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
  • Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as clients’ aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public. Reports problems to the supervisor.
  • Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.
  • Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. Provides input to counsellor, professional with regard to the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents’ objectives. Contributes to the evaluation of residents’ progress and prepares reports.
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families.
  • Transports and assists residents to appointments, shopping or leisure activities.
  • Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
  • Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, daily activities on residents.
  • Identifies social economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
  • Knowledge, appreciation, awareness, and sensitivity of Indigenous history and culture.
  • Ability to prioritize the well-being and dignity of Person Served and their families while maintaining a supportive and empathetic approach to address sensitive matters.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Training

You will participate in a comprehensive 11-day training program, followed by three (3) shadow shifts designed to fully prepare you to support youth and adults in a safe, effective, and productive environment. Throughout your tenure, you'll have opportunities for internal growth, advancement, and continued professional development through additional training and education offered internally and by third-party providers.
