Job Description

The Monell Chemical Senses Center, founded in 1968, is the world’s first nonprofit scientific institute devoted exclusively to basic research on the chemical senses: taste, smell, and chemosensory irritation. Research at Monell contributes to a wide range of scientific and practical knowledge including taste and smell loss with COVID-19 . With more than fifty Ph.D.-level scientists, the Center is making major progress toward understanding how the chemical senses function and their importance in everyday life. A full-time technician position is available from February 1st 2024 to perform studies in human olfaction at the intersection with human health, working in the laboratory of Dr. Valentina Parma. Responsibilities include human sensory testing sessions, database management, data entry, mentoring students, institutional review board applications. BA/BS in Psychology, Public Health, Biology or related field is required and programming experience in R is highly desirable but not required.

Qualifications

Candidates should be proficient in or willing to learn the following:

  • Setting priorities and managing large on-going and new projects
  • Data management and organization
  • Meticulous record-keeping and attention to detail
  • Human recruitment and sensory testing
  • Collaboration in a team environment, both in person and remotely
  • Statistical analysis methods
  • Mentoring students and other trainees

Applicants must possess at least a B.A. or B.S. degree in either Psychology or Biology or a related field
