Job Description

The Senior Research Specialist will lead independent and collaborative research focused on the physiological effects of fungal small molecules, including mycotoxins and volatile organic compounds. This position serves as experienced research professional responsible for experimental design, execution, data analysis, and dissemination of research findings.

The incumbent will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to advance research initiatives involving filamentous fungi, contribute to grant development, and support publication efforts. The role includes mentoring undergraduate and graduate research trainees and ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable biosafety and regulatory standards.

This position requires intellectual independence, scientific creativity, and strong collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary research environment.

• Advanced knowledge of molecular mycology and fungal biology.

• Experience with experimental design and execution in biological systems.

• Ability to analyze and interpret complex scientific data.

• Strong scientific writing skills, including preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.

• Familiarity with biosafety procedures and regulatory compliance in laboratory settings.

• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative research team.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining laboratory records.

• Proficiency with standard laboratory software and scientific data analysis tools.

• Effective communication and mentoring skills.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science degree

• At least three years of laboratory experience

• At least one year of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline.

• Demonstrated experience in laboratory-based research, including experimental design and data analysis.

• Experience mentoring or supervising research trainees.

• Specialized expertise in analysis of volatile organic compounds.

• Experience working with model systems such as Drosophila, Arabidopsis, or Saccharomyces.

• Track record of peer-reviewed publications.

• Experience contributing to successful grant proposals.
