To solve the biggest challenges of our time, we need bright minds with the ambition to make the impossible possible. Siemens is your place to thrive, challenge the status quo, make a difference and grow in a team of innovators who share your passion for technology. Are you in?

In our Distributed AI Systems research group in Vienna, we develop foundation models, world models and learning-based systems that bring AI into the physical world safely, reliably and at industrial scale. We are looking for a Senior Research Scientist who will shape how these technologies are developed, evaluated and deployed across edge, on-premise and cloud environments.

You'll make an impact by

  • Shaping our Physical AI research agenda and translating industrial needs into ambitious research questions and measurable outcomes.
  • Developing and adapting multimodal foundation models, vision-language-action models and world models for industrial and embodied applications.
  • Advancing reinforcement learning, imitation learning and agentic planning for complex, multi-step physical tasks.
  • Designing efficient training and inference methods across GPU clusters, edge devices, on-premise infrastructure and cloud environments.
  • Defining rigorous benchmarks for performance, safety, robustness and reliability, and validating solutions with Siemens business and technology teams.
  • Leading scientific collaborations, mentoring researchers and representing Siemens through publications, patents and research partnerships.

Your success is grounded in

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence or a related field, or an outstanding Master's degree with an equivalent research track record.
  • Several years of research experience in modern machine learning, including foundation models, multimodal learning, world models, generative AI or reinforcement learning.
  • A strong publication record and hands-on experience training, fine-tuning and evaluating large models using Python and PyTorch and/or JAX.
  • Experience turning research into working prototypes using real-world or industrial data, combined with strong software engineering practices.
  • Excellent English communication skills and the ability to collaborate with researchers, engineers and business stakeholders.

You'll stand out with

  • Experience in robot learning, autonomous systems, simulation, synthetic data, sim-to-real transfer, distributed or edge AI, 3D perception, sensor fusion or responsible AI.
  • Experience acquiring publicly funded research projects, managing academic partnerships or contributing to open-source ML or robotics libraries.

You'll benefit from

  • The opportunity to shape Siemens' Physical AI research and translate scientific ideas into industrial impact.
  • A global research network, access to real industrial challenges and room to define your own research direction.
  • Flexible working hours, a hybrid working model and development opportunities along an expert or leadership track.
