Senior Research Scientist; DMPK in Buffalo, NY

The Senior Research Scientist, DMPK is an expert in the areas of DMPK and drug bioanalysis and metabolism. The principal responsibilities of the Senior Research Scientist are to execute research projects in these areas, as well as provide technical expertise to prepare cost estimates for non-standard business proposals and to expand capabilities and improve efficiencies for DMPK studies. The Senior Research Scientist is expected to demonstrate expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of mass spectrometry, to apply this expertise to the tasks assigned, and to develop novel assays and services as needed. Effective communication and multitasking skills, and the ability to deliver independent results within a team environment are all integral to this position. The Senior Research Scientist is encouraged to display a degree of professionalism reflected in part by increasing the scientist’s knowledge of theory and practice through reading scientific journals and texts. Over time the Senior Research Scientist is expected to demonstrate an aptitude for the mentorship and development of less experienced DMPK scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specific technical expertise to execute research projects in the areas of DMPK, bioanalysis and/or metabolite synthesis
  • Particular focus on bench execution of DMPK assays with ability to cross train (and provide cross training) on additional assays as needed
  • Design and conduct in vitro experiments in liver microsomes or hepatocytes to generate compound metabolites, characterize metabolic pathways, evaluate metabolism kinetics, determine bioactivation mechanisms, etc.
  • Use sound judgment and previously acquired knowledge and experience to develop new procedures. These procedures may go beyond the normal routine and involve literature searching as well as contact with suppliers and customers, etc
  • Advise and/or train other DMPK scientists for the efficient conduct of ADME assays and appropriate evaluation of assay performance and results
  • Supervision, development and performance monitoring of direct reports and others, as may be assigned by the Head of the DMPK team
  • Help monitor the latest developments in specific areas of technical responsibility, and recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of research services
  • Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner. Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices
  • Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as all appropriate SOPs
  • Use and maintain equipment in a neat and orderly manner. Report any malfunction immediately to supervisor. Repair minor problems. Maintain service and calibration records
  • Keep contemporary, accurate, legible, and complete experimental records
  • Submit complete, documented, and legible reports of testing. Ensure that data are properly filed and accessible for review in accordance with appropriate SOPs
  • Manage workload and time to enable the performance of multiple projects effectively, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis
  • Participate in professional development activities and training of others

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Analytical Science or related field and a minimum 6-8 years’ experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Analytical Science or related field and a minimum 4-6 years’ experience in a DMPK laboratory, OR
  • Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science, Analytical Science or related field with a minimum 0-4 years of relevant industry research experience

Other Qualifications

  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass a drug screen
  • May be required to pass Occupational Health Screening

Pay Range $79,000/yr.

Education, experience, location and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
