Huawei's Munich Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of our products.

The Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL)
is responsible for research activities towards the definition and development of mobile network technologies and communication systems for vertical industries. AWTL has been engaging with multiple research and standardization activities, including participating to European Commission funded research projects of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe frameworks, contributing to industrial communication fora as 5G-AA, 5G-ACIA, transferring technologies to standardization bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, NGMN, and developing in-house experimental platforms, prototypes and proof of concepts on wireless and networking technologies. Recently, AWTL has its focus towards the next generation (6G) wireless networks and technologies.

AWTL is now looking for a:

Senior Research Engineer on AI for 6G (m/f/d)

Your mission

• Contribute to internal strategic R&D roadmap in 6G research, identifying key technology trends (especially related to AI) relevant to future 6G systems
• Evaluate the resource footprint of AI services (inference, training), focusing on Large Language Models (LLMs), Transformers, and Generative AI (GenAI), and propose novel efficiency methods suitable for wireless/network application
• Explore and propose resource-aware deployment and operational techniques for sustainable AI services in 6G systems
• Contribute to cooperative research, e.g. research project proposal writing, cooperation project management, technical content contribution, etc.
  
• Responsibility to supervise master and PhD students

Your areas of expertise

• PhD or equivalent in a related subject area, e.g. telecommunications, computer science, or a related field
• Strong background in AI-relevant topics, such as deep learning, vision models, LLMs, Transformers, and GenAI
• Extensive hands-on experience in model training and inferencing tasks
• Experience with and knowledge of distributed learning techniques such as Federated Learning
• Experience with and knowledge of ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
• Excellent knowledge of both spoken and written English
  
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
