The Senior Research Associate is responsible for performing antibody conjugation to various labels and subsequent purification using established protocols, in alignment with budget constraints and customer demand.

This position reports to the Senior Scientist and is part of the Conjugation Development Platform Team within Research and Development, located in Cambridge, UK and will be an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Perform antibody conjugation activities using innovative technologies and assess product quality before and after conjugation using analytical techniques including HPLC, FPLC (ÄKTA), spectroscopy and other characterisation methods.

  • Support the development and optimisation of antibody conjugation processes and workflows within the Conjugation Development Platform team.

  • Execute laboratory experiments, analyse data, troubleshoot technical challenges and contribute to the delivery of high-quality research outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate experimental records using Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs), laboratory notebooks and Oracle ERP systems, ensuring compliance with SOPs and ISO9001:2015 standards.

  • Collaborate with scientists across R&D and downstream functions to support project delivery, process improvements and the implementation of new technologies.

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of laboratory procedures, documentation and best practices.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology or a related scientific discipline from an accredited higher education institution.

  • Practical laboratory experience gained through industry, research or academic settings, with experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Protein purification
    • Protein biochemistry
    • Antibody-based workflows
    • Bioconjugation
    • Analytical characterization techniques
    • Chemistry-based laboratory processes
  • A passion for laboratory-based scientific research with a strong willingness to learn new techniques, technologies and ways of working.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to generate accurate, high-quality experimental data and documentation.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic research environment.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work successfully within a multidisciplinary team.

  • A flexible and proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Experience working with protein purification systems such as ÄKTA/FPLC.

  • Experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, spectroscopy or related protein characterisation methods.

  • Experience working with antibodies, protein modification, bioconjugation or related biologics workflows.

  • Experience working within regulated laboratory environments and following SOP-driven processes.
