Position Objectives

The Senior Research Associate, Anatomy, will be responsible for educational duties and for the successful delivery of the predoctoral and graduate Anatomy and HoloAnatomy curriculum at the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine Responsibilities will include: team teaching in the predoctoral HEWB 134 Head & Neck anatomy course; teaching gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, physiology, and histology, and contributing to the design and implementation of virtual anatomy learning experiences; Co-directing the HoloAnatomy curriculum; teaching in the DENT 513 graduate summer head & neck anatomy for residents course; and teaching Anatomy/Anatomical Sciences and HoloAnatomy in the following D1 and D2 biomedical sciences modules: Cellular & Molecular Biology, HWDP 131 Heart & Lung in Health & Disease, HWDP 142 Gastrointestinal System in Health & Disease, HWDP 245 Musculoskeletal System in Health & Disease, HWDP 232 Renal/Blood, HWDP 246 Neuroscience in Health & Disease, and HWDP 243 Endocrine & Reproductive Systems in Health & Disease. The Senior Research Associate, Anatomy, will contribute to anatomy review sessions with D1 and D2 students, contribute to writing/revising exams/assessments, proctor exams, will contribute in student remediations and be involved with mentoring students.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Serving as Senior Research Associate, Anatomy, working in collaboration with the Assistant Professor of Anatomy, in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences, to:

Provide instruction in the predoctoral Head & Neck anatomy course HEWB 134; Co-direct the HoloAnatomy curriculum; Provide instruction in the graduate summer head & neck anatomy for residents course DENT 513; Provide Anatomy/Anatomical Sciences and HoloAnatomy teaching in the following D1 and D2 biomedical sciences modules: Cellular & Molecular Biology, HWDP 131 Heart & Lung in Health & Disease, HWDP 142 Gastrointestinal System in Health & Disease, HWDP 245 Musculoskeletal System in Health & Disease, HWDP 232 Renal/Blood, HWDP 246 Neuroscience in Health & Disease, HWDP 243 Endocrine & Reproductive Systems in Health & Disease. Teach and support learning in physiology and histology as needed.(75%)

Work with the Assistant Professor of Anatomy in designing, developing, facilitating and expanding additional HoloAnatomy.NEXT and HoloNeuro.NEXT virtual anatomy laboratory sessions where applicable, in the D1 and D2 curriculum, and leveraging use of the MetaQuest 3 headsets and applications such as the “Jaws at Work” app; Contribute to delivering anatomy review sessions with D1 and D2 students; Contribute to writing/revising exams/assessments, assess student performance, provide timely feedback and proctor exams; Contribute with student remediations as needed; Coordinate and/or help facilitate scheduling and delivery of anatomy lab activities; Involved with mentoring students; Collaborate with faculty and curriculum committees to support course development/innovation/improvement (15%)

Experience using virtual anatomy headsets such as Microsoft HoloLens and Meta Quest in educational settings.

Experience designing and implementing virtual anatomy laboratory experiences using HoloAnatomy.NEXT and HoloAnatomy Neuro.NEXT.

Develop and demonstrate skills in use of AI in the classroom and didactic curriculum, for example, use of Open Evidence with students/in the classroom and other AI tools

Serve as a content expert in your area(s) of expertise

Demonstrated experience with virtual anatomy technologies and virtual lab development.

Willingness and ability to teach physiology and histology.

Promote and maintain a positive attitude of service toward students, coworkers and others.

Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students in a manner that evokes trust and respect, and establish and maintain effective working relationships by working collegially with faculty and staff

Ability to work in a team and flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances.

Demonstrate strong organization, interpersonal, and planning skills, as well as excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills

Excellent presentation and pedagogical skills

Prepare educational tools (syllabi, videos, Zoom, via Canvas, AV, slide presentations, handouts, study/review guides, practice quizzes) as needed.

Ability to manage projects, and project deadlines and ability to work with and manage different computer software/programs and schedule activities and/or meetings.

Attend and contribute to departmental and school meetings, attend faculty and/or staff retreats and faculty/staff development offerings.

Serve on departmental and school committees, as assigned or elected.

Ability to accept work directives and receive assignments from the Department Chair and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in a respectful and team-oriented cooperative manner.

Must be available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction.

Willingness to be trained/updated on the current learning management system and other technologies such as the Acadly automated attendance system, and AI tools and technologies as required.

Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials,

Knowledge of and maintaining student and patient's privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA, etc.)

Qualifications

Experience: M.S. in AnatomyAnatomical Sciences, or Applied Anatomy and/or in a Biological Sciences discipline with experience teaching dissection-based gross anatomy and neuroanatomy and related disciplines at the graduate/professional level. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and innovation.

The annual starting base salary range for this position is from $52,000 to $80,000. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
