
Experimental research requires substantial experience beyond the scientific knowledge of the research topic of study, much of which is beyond the scope of undergraduate researchers in the limited time they have to participate in such research. The candidate of this position will assist in research operations including the design and assembly of mechanical and electrical hardware, conducting fluids experiments, and providing data analysis tools and guidance to support to lab members. The Fluids of Astrophysical Bodies Laboratory (FAB Lab) has shown the importance of giving undergraduate students research experience, which has helped over a dozen students be accepted to graduate programs and/or technical positions in industry.
Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
The candidate is expected to:
Help design and assemble mechanical and electrical hardware to enable faculty member’s research, thus also enabling undergraduate research.
Develop data analysis tools that enable faster processing and interpretation of experimental data by undergraduate students.
Provide technical guidance and create documentation for proper operation of experimental hardware to ensure lab member safety.

Requisite Qualifications
Typically a Masters Degree and 2 years of experience in field or laboratory research.
Preferred Qualifications
Skills or certifications that are not mandatory but would be beneficial.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) (SolidWorks Preferred)
Data Analysis and Pipeline Creation
Programming Experience (Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW preferred)
Hands-on laboratory or field-based research
Experience with mechanical design for fluid systems
Mental & Physical Demands: Clear statements on any specific physical requirements (e.g., lifting, standing) or environmental considerations.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted

$29.71 - $37.16 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
