Job Description

The Institutional Effectiveness Officeat Whittier College seeks a Senior Research Analyst. Under the director of the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, the Senior Research Analyst will support institutional research responsibilities which include maintaining databases and queries, external reporting, internal reporting survey collection, and analysis. Responsibilities will include conducting complex statistical analyses, producing ad hoc reports, research and predictive modeling to support data driven decision making. In addition, the Senior Research Analyst will be responsible for presenting data analysis through various means—including written reports and the development of dashboard visualizations—to the college community for institutional planning. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness supports the strategic imperative of the College to focus on equity and inclusion to improve student outcomes.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use programming languages and queries to extract and collect data from the student information data warehouse.
  • Provide enrollment and student outcomes data to Senior Leadership and other stakeholders to support institutional planning and effectiveness in a variety of areas including enrollment management, strategic planning, accreditation, program review, assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses and complex research studies to support data driven decision making.
  • Assist with ongoing institutional assessment of academic and non-academic programs in accordance with WASC standards.
  • Work with the Dean of DEI and Associate VP and other campus constituencies to embed equity and inclusion outcomes in all assessment processes.
  • Engage in ongoing data collection and analysis of key institutional processes.
  • Design surveys and assist with survey administration and data collection.
  • Create dashboards or other data visualizations to share data with faculty, staff, administration, and other members of the college community.
  • Write professional reports and summarize data through various means to the Whittier College Community in clear language without jargon.
  • Train and oversee undergraduate interns within the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary range: $70,000 - $75,000 per year.

Qualifications

Position Specifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in education, research and evaluation, data analytics, social sciences or other related field appropriate to the position.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with programming languages (e.g. SQL, R, Python) needed to extract, query and join together large datasets from the student information system Ellucian/Banner
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite software (e.g. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access) used for data management as well as producing tables, charts, and graphs
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R) to analyze data using various statistical methods
  • Experience with data visualization software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity and discretion.
