To support this, Amazon is seeking an exceptional and strategic people manager to serve as a JPFC Sr. Regional WHS Manager for our customer fulfillment centers JPFC.

The JPFC Sr. Regional WHS Manager will be primarily responsible for managing all health and safety related matters across our customer fulfillment centers JPFC. They will implement company safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce WHS risks in our processes to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our Associates and Contractors. They must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and influence change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.

The JPFC Sr Regional WHS Manager must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. This individual must instruct and train Operations Leaders on company safety policies and assist the regional teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites. They will be required to identify best practices and incorporate them into our standards to continuously improve company safety policies. They will be required to possess excellent safety program knowledge as well as relevant environmental and ergonomic expertise and demonstrate this expertise when working with Operations.

The JPFC Sr Regional WHS Manager will also support WHS activities and programs related to new expansions and launches to ensure new projects are executed safely without delays due to safety concerns. The JPFC Sr Regional WHS Manager will be responsible for leading a team of WHS professionals. This individual must create and execute leadership development plans for their team members. They must communicate team expectations and give frequent and appropriate feedback to their team members, ensuring they are executing to the core competencies of an Amazon WHS professional. This individual must also demonstrate the ability to judge and assess WHS talent and select appropriate strengths matched to current and future business needs.

This JPFC Sr Regional WHS Manager will report to the Japan WHS Country Leader and work collaboratively across all Amazon Japan Business Units to deliver safety solutions and drive organizational effectiveness. They will interact regularly with Directors across WHS, Operations, Finance, and Engineering teams, serving as a trusted advisor and execution leader for the JPFC network. This position requires travel up to approximately 30% for critical stakeholder meetings and project deployments.

Key job responsibilities
• Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and the ability to work with these regulations and company policies.
• Act as SME of local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS Policies.
• Measure the region's and sites' performance against published requirements in WHS policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.
• Ensure WHS record-keeping and data integrity and provide Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business WHS initiatives.
• Deliver safety projects on-time to Operations.
• Analyze WHS metrics and review weekly and monthly incident trends to justify the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the WHS risk is highest.
• Analyze WHS review and audit results and develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury at other facilities.
• Audit the workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure that training, auditing, and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
• Manage and mentor the WHS team in the assigned facilities.
• Lead injury reduction efforts by performing targeted Kaizens in partnership with the Operations teams based on the risks identified in each task/at each job position.
• Ensure site leadership and Associates are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy. Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required WHS training.
• Review the deployed WHS tools and revisions for effectiveness to ensure continual improvement.
• Partner with other regional field WHS personnel to leverage global WHS best practices across JPFC network standards.
• Manage and mentor the WHS team in the assigned facilities.
• Assess and develop WHS talent and select appropriate strengths matched to current and future business needs.

Basic Qualifications


- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 10+ years of increasingly responsible roles in safety and/or environmental programs within manufacturing, production, service operations, or other relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in people and performance management
- Ability to communicate and present in English, both written and verbal
- Experience driving organizational or process change initiatives in a multiple site environment and multiple direct reports
- Track record of managing strategic planning processes and documentation (e.g., multi-year roadmaps, business reviews)

Preferred Qualifications

- MBA, or Master's degree
- Experience working with, presenting to and influencing senior executives up to VP level
- Certified Safety Professional or Industry equivalent (NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP, MSP, ISO, PMP)
- Ability to communicate and present in Japanese, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility in an organization
