Lighthouse Lab Services is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented R&D Bioanalytical Scientist / LC-MS Leader to join our client in Laval, QC. This is a full-time position.

Role open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced scientific leader to oversee bioanalytical research and development activities within a GLP-compliant laboratory environment. This role will lead method development using LC-MS, support bioanalysis of small and large molecules, and serve as a key scientific resource across R&D, laboratory operations, validation, and client-facing activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead method development and R&D activities for bioanalytical assays using LC-MS.
• Provide scientific leadership for bioanalysis of small and large therapeutic molecules.
• Lead, manage, and develop the R&D team while coordinating departmental activities.
• Serve as the scientific liaison between R&D, validation, production, and external clients.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of R&D personnel.
• Serve as a scientific resource for feasibility assessments, project planning, timelines, and technical inquiries.
• Develop new analytical methods and establish verification of client methods according to applicable SOPs.
• Apply strong chemistry expertise to develop and implement new methodologies for innovative molecules.
• Review and approve R&D reports and non-clinical data prior to submission to sponsors.
• Review and approve bioanalytical methods prior to transfer to the GLP department for validation.
• Advise laboratory leadership and department heads on issues affecting analytical data integrity and help resolve technical challenges.
• Serve as an LC-MS/MS subject matter expert for method development.
• Stay current with emerging LC-MS/MS technologies, regulatory requirements, and industry trends.
• Support scientific meetings and collaborate with department leaders on scientific and organizational priorities.
• Partner with Business Development to provide scientific expertise for prospective projects and client opportunities.
• Participate in project quotations and budget development, providing input on material costs, timelines, and technical feasibility.
• Establish partnerships with specialized laboratories in areas such as metabolomics, proteomics, and compound synthesis.
• Attend relevant scientific conferences and represent the organization as a subject matter expert.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, capabilities, organization, and growth of the R&D function.

Team & Laboratory Collaboration

• Foster strong collaboration between R&D and GLP Operations through regular meetings and ongoing scientific support.
• Work closely with the Mass Spectrometry team to support and advance laboratory capabilities.
• Promote scientific collaboration across departments and ensure effective communication between research and operational teams.
• Support the continued growth and professional development of the R&D team.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
• 8 to 10 years of experience in an LC-MS bioanalytical laboratory operating within a GLP-compliant environment.
• At least 5 years of experience working within an R&D function in a GLP bioanalytical laboratory.
• Strong chemistry background with demonstrated expertise in LC-MS/MS method development.
• Experience with bioanalysis of small molecules and large therapeutic molecules.
• Strong understanding of analytical method development, verification, validation, and transfer.
• Fluency in both French and English is highly desirable, as the role involves regular communication with English-speaking sponsors and international clients.
• Ability to provide scientific leadership while collaborating effectively with laboratory operations, business development, and external clients.
• Strong communication, leadership, and team-development skills.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $90,000 to $120,000, depending on education and experience
• Vacation: 3 to 4 weeks, based on experience and other factors
• Personal/Sick Days: 7 days
• RRSP: Employer match of employee contributions up to 3% after 3-month probationary period
• Insurance: Available after 3-month probationary period
• Schedule: Monday through Friday
• Hours: 36.25 hours per week, 7.25 hours per day
