  • Work closely with operational, delivery, design and planning teams to ensure commercial decisions are aligned with project delivery and supported by accurate site records.
  • Prepare, own and maintain cash flow forecasts, spend profiles, client applications and variance analysis, providing clear explanations for movements against budget and previous forecasts.
  • Manage cash, WIP and debt, implementing appropriate actions to maximise cash flow, minimise unsubstantiated WIP and support timely recovery of amounts due.
  • Lead the preparation and review of CVRs, VCA reviews, cost reports, forecasts and month-end submissions, ensuring forecast outturn, turnover, margin, risk and opportunity positions are accurate and fully substantiated.
  • Lead procurement and tendering activities for subcontract and supply chain packages, including procurement strategy, tender lists, enquiry documentation, tender evaluation and recommendations in line with delegated authority.
  • Negotiate and administer client and subcontract terms, ensuring appropriate risk allocation, contractual compliance and timely execution of subcontract documentation.
  • Lead the commercial management of compensation events, variations and other change control mechanisms, ensuring early warnings, notices and contractual communications are issued accurately and within required timescales.
  • Oversee extension of time and loss and expense entitlements where applicable, ensuring assumptions, qualifications, records and commercial positions are clearly documented and maintained.
  • Assess and approve supply chain applications and payments in accordance with contractual and statutory requirements, while maintaining effective cost and liability control.
  • Chair or lead commercial meetings with clients and supply chain partners, acting as the primary commercial interface and progressing matters through to timely agreement.
  • Maintain accurate, auditable commercial records, registers and correspondence in line with Galliford Try systems, governance requirements and project mobilisation processes.
  • Identify, manage and report commercial risks and opportunities, escalating material issues promptly and implementing clear mitigation or recovery actions.
  • Lead, coach and support Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors, promoting strong commercial awareness, professional standards and consistent ways of working.
  • Build strong, ethical and professional relationships with clients, the supply chain and internal project teams, protecting Galliford Try’s financial and reputational interests.
  • Support audits, assurance reviews and internal approval gateways, ensuring full compliance with Galliford Try and Asset Intelligence commercial, legal and governance requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, sustainability commitments and Galliford Try’s environmental and social responsibility objectives.

About you:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction, infrastructure, utilities or a comparable project environment.
  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or relevant demonstrable experience.
  • Sound working knowledge of standard forms of contract, with NEC and JCT experience preferred.
  • Commercially astute, organised and decisive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across live projects and site environments.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel and confident using commercial systems, reporting tools and project documentation platforms.
  • Ability to lead, coach and develop junior commercial team members and promote effective collaboration with operational and technical teams.
