Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Cost Estimation and Measurement

  • Study project drawings, specifications, and tender documents for quantity take-off and cost preparation.
  • Prepare quantity measurements and the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
  • Assist in compiling cost estimates, budget summaries, and tender submissions.
  • Support feasibility studies and preliminary cost planning exercises.
  • Maintain updated cost databases, unit rates, and supplier/subcontractor quotations.

2. Contract Administration

  • Assist in the preparation and issuance of tender documents and BOQ packages.
  • Support the evaluation and comparison of contractor/subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist in preparing contracts, purchase orders, and work package documentation.
  • Monitor and record variations, change orders, and claims for review by senior staff.
  • Ensure proper filing and maintenance of commercial and contractual records.

3. Project Cost Monitoring

  • Track project expenditures against approved budgets and report cost variances.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress claims, payment certificates, and subcontractor valuations.
  • Monitor material usage, site progress, and cost performance.
  • Support monthly cost reporting, cash flow updates, and forecast final account positions.
  • Identify potential cost overruns and escalate issues to senior management.

4. Coordination and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and project commercial controls.
  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, procurement teams, site staff, and contractors on cost-related matters.
  • Attend project meetings when required and record commercial action items.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in quantity surveying, cost estimation, or construction cost control.
  • Basic knowledge of quantity take-off, BOQ preparation, and construction costing.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with estimation software (e.g. CostX, Planswift, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn, attention to detail, and ability to work under deadlines.
