Senior Quantitative Genetics Scientist (m/f/d)

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and advancement of quantitative genetics innovations within the Product Design pipeline
  • Execute the quantitative genetics technical strategy to design improved cohorts of germplasm that align with Product Concept targets, from initial crossing through to handoff to Product Development
  • Support quantitative genetics projects focusing on the implementation of Precision Breeding technical innovations in Product Design
  • Contribute strong technical expertise in coding, delivering, and utilizing models, algorithms, and systems for breeding program design and optimization, including breeding goal definition, optimization of automated crossing processes, genetic evaluation, and large-scale data acquisition optimization
  • Identify key opportunities for new technology implementation and/or process improvement, while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and design-centric culture
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams across Product Design and partners in various global regions (NA, LATAM, and APAC) to support innovation projects in Precision Breeding, with a strong emphasis on driving genetic gain and product performance through enhanced quantitative genetics development and deployment in at least one crop
  • Uphold the Health, Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct, and Human Rights policies and culture at the site

WHO YOU ARE

  • PhD in Quantitative Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, or a related scientific field with several years of relevant experience; or an MS degree with significant years of experience in developing quantitative genetics methods for routine use in breeding programs
  • Proven experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence the activities of cross-functional teams without direct reporting relationships
  • Skilled in leading and influencing key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities, facilitating effective solutions
  • Results-oriented with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Experienced in analyzing large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, and proficient in coding in C, Fortran, or similar programming languages
  • A track record of success with several years of experience in deriving quantitative genetics theory and in coding, delivering, and utilizing algorithms and systems in at least two of the following areas:
    • Breeding program design and optimization
    • Breeding goal definition
    • Optimization of automated crossing processes
    • Genetic evaluation
    • Optimization of data acquisition at scale in plant or animal breeding programs
