Senior Quality Engineer - External Manufacturing

Location: Japan 　(Mie or Shizuoka or Tokyo)

Your Role

As Senior Quality Engineer , you will play a key role in driving quality excellence across external manufacturing partnerships throughout Japan.

Working closely with Tolling Manufacturers and cross-functional teams, you will ensure that quality standards are consistently upheld, operational plans are adapted to address emerging needs,

and continuous improvement is embedded across manufacturing sites. Your contributions will directly support the delivery of world-class quality outcomes, enabling the business to meet its commitments to customers while advancing digital innovation and process efficiency.

In this role, you will:

• Lead cross-functional teams in resolving technology issues and managing root cause investigations, implementing preventative, corrective, or mitigation actions to ensure consistent quality outcomes.
• Conduct and lead quality-related audits at external manufacturing sites, ensuring adherence to established standards and identifying areas for improvement.
• Drive quality initiatives for new product startups with Tolling Manufacturers, acting as the voice of the customer and ensuring process controls are in place to prevent escapes.
• Support the business in maintaining quality performance at manufacturing sites by driving collaboration with Tolling Manufacturers and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure discipline in process control tools such as Statistical Process Control reviews, identify continuous improvement opportunities, and contribute to variation reduction efforts.
• Identify and enable automation activities to accelerate decision-making and improve visibility into unknown variables and process issues.
• Disposition discrepant materials, identify process gaps, and manage cross-functional teams and external relationships to implement effective controls.
• Contribute to the advancement of global quality projects and process improvements using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, as well as data-driven process optimization initiatives.
• Identify and escalate risk factors that may impact quality, customer commitments, or operational goals, and contribute to the development of appropriate mitigation actions.
• Support new product introductions by contributing to risk assessments and ensuring process controls are in place to prevent quality escapes to customers.
• Travel regularly to Tolling Manufacturer sites across Japan as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Who You Are

Basic / Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or another technical discipline.
• 8 or more years of experience in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, control engineering, analytical chemistry, or semiconductor fabrication.
• Native-level Japanese language proficiency with excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently, primarily within Japan.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to motivate others and collaborate effectively with multiple internal stakeholders across functions and geographies.
• Proven track record of contributing to the advancement of projects, project teams, and process improvement initiatives.
• Experience with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies or data-driven process optimization projects; Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
• Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent activities and projects.
• Moderate to advanced statistical knowledge, including SPC, t-tests, ANOVA, and single and multivariate statistical modelling.
• Experience with quality problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys, FMEAs, continuous improvement activities, management of change, and document control systems.
• Proficiency with data science and statistical software including JMP, Python, or visualization tools such as Tableau; experience with data automation and digitization is a plus.
• Experience within the Electronics industry, preferably in semiconductors, and familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems or IATF 16949.
