A role you will love

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring software meets the appropriate quality standards before it is released into production. You will be embedded within a delivery team, partnering closely with developers, product owners, and business stakeholders to plan and execute testing activities, identify risks early, and prevent issues from impacting customers.

This role combines hands‑on testing and automation with leadership and influence across the team. You will operate independently, bring deep quality engineering expertise, and help guide best practices while continuously improving how quality is measured and delivered.

Key Responsibilities

Test Strategy & Planning

- Responsible for delivery of Test Analysis, Design, Implementation & Execution activities to assess functional suitability of software delivered
- Solicits feedback to clarify/understand requirements and draw out implied requirements
- Performs and applies **risk analysis** to assess likelihood and impact of software failure to define optimum test coverage
- Uses formal **test design techniques** to translate requirements into clearly-defined, prioritized test cases
- Ensures clear traceability between requirements/acceptance criteria and test cases
- Define test data strategies and environment requirements for comprehensive testing

Test Automation Development

- Design, implement, and maintain Playwright TypeScript test automation using POM, Data-driven, and BDD concepts:
- Maintain and enhance Selenium/Java test suites for legacy applications
- Create reusable automation libraries, helper classes, and utilities
- Implement proper waits, synchronization, and error handling
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented automation code

Database Validation & Testing

- Write and execute complex SQL queries to validate application data:
- Perform cross-database data reconciliation and comparison testing

API Testing (REST & SOAP)

- Perform comprehensive API testing using Postman or SOAPUI:
- Implement API test automation using framework clients and libraries (Playwright is preferred)
- Validate API performance and response times

Manual Testing

- Execute comprehensive manual functional testing across web applications, APIs, databases, and batch systems
- Perform **exploratory testing** with well-defined test charters, capturing insights and providing actionable feedback
- Conduct **static testing** reviews to identify defects/ambiguities in requirements, designs, specifications & test cases
- Execute regression testing to ensure new changes don't break existing functionality

Performance Testing

- Design, execute, and analyze performance tests using NeoLoad:
- Create load test scenarios (load, stress, endurance, spike tests)
- Configure virtual users, think times, and pacing strategies
- Monitor system resources (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network)

Azure DevOps (ADO) Test Management

- Comprehensive test management in Azure DevOps (Create and organize Test Plans, Test Suites, and Test Cases):
- Defect Management: Log, Prioritize, Track, and Perform root cause analysis for Defect/Bugs

CI/CD Integration

- Integrate automated tests into Azure DevOps Pipelines including configure pipeline YAML for test execution
- Use Git/Azure Repos for version control
- Manage test environments and deployment configurations

AI-Assisted Development (highly-preferred)

- Leverage GitHub Copilot for productivity
- Explore Model Context Protocol (MCP) for enhanced testing workflows
- Stay current with emerging AI/ML tools in quality engineering
- Champion adoption of AI tools within the QA team

Leadership & Collaboration

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in **Agile/Scrum** ceremonies:
- Champion quality best practices and continuous improvement
- Contribute to QA community of practice and innovation initiatives

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Lead test analysis, design, implementation, and execution activities
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements and uncover implied risks

  • Execute complex SQL queries for database validation and reconciliation
  • Perform REST and SOAP API testing using Postman or SOAPUI
  • Implement API automation (Playwright preferred)
  • Conduct manual, exploratory, regression, and static testing across applications
  • Design and execute performance tests using NeoLoad
  • Integrate automated tests into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
  • Manage test plans, defects, and execution within Azure DevOps
  • Mentor team members and promote quality best practices

What will you bring to the role

Partnering closely with business and technology stakeholders, this role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proactive mindset.

- 8+ years of application testing or quality assurance experience in enterprise environments
- 5+ years of test automation experience designing and implementing automated test solutions
- 5+ years of hands-on manual application testing with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- 3+ years of Agile/Scrum experience with solid understanding of Agile testing principles and practices
- Proven track record of leading testing efforts for complex, multi-tier applications
- Experience with full SDLC including requirements analysis, test planning, execution, and defect management

Test Automation & Programming:

- 4+ years of TypeScript/JavaScript programming experience (primary language for automation)
- Object-oriented programming principles and design patterns
- 2+ years of Playwright automation framework experience with BDD/Cucumber & POM concept
- Page Object Model design and implementation
- Element management and locator strategies (XPath, CSS)
- Browser automation best practices
- Custom framework development and enhancement
- 3+ years of Selenium WebDriver with Java for legacy test maintenance
- Understanding of WebDriver API and browser driver management
- Ability to migrate Selenium tests to Playwright

API Testing (REST & SOAP):

- 4+ years of Postman or SOAPUI experience for REST and SOAP testing (mandatory):
- Creating and maintaining Postman collections
- Writing automated tests using Postman test scripts

Azure DevOps (ADO):

- 3+ years of Azure DevOps experience for QA activities

AI-Assisted Development (Highly Valued):

- Experience with GitHub Copilot or similar AI coding assistants
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) for AI integration
- Forward-thinking approach to adopting AI tools in testing workflows
- Ability to evaluate and implement emerging AI/ML technologies

You will also bring:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • 8+ years of QA or application testing experience in enterprise environments
  • 5+ years of test automation experience
  • 5+ years of hands‑on manual testing experience
  • 3+ years working in Agile/Scrum teams
  • Proven experience leading testing efforts for complex, multi‑tier systems
  • Full SDLC experience including planning, execution, and defect management
  • Playwright automation experience (2+ years)
  • Strong Java and JavaScript / TypeScript skills (4+ years)
  • Azure DevOps (3+ years)
  • Git / Azure Repos
  • Postman or SOAPUI

Compensation: The typical base pay range for this role is $83,341.65 – $118,761.35 for Columbia, MD, $75,404.35 – $107,450.75 for Charlotte, NC and $79,373.00 – $113,106.05 for St Paul, MN
