Job Description
About Penbrothers
Penbrothers is an HR & remote talent management partner and one of the fastest-growing companies in the Philippines. We provide talented Filipinos with global opportunities in high-growth startups and dynamic companies, from the comfort of their own homes.
Role Objectives
To own the quality of the Native team’s iOS and Android apps, testing them hands-on with quality and pace. The Senior QA Engineer is a trusted quality partner to the team, works with Product, uses AI to leverage and enhance their QA capabilities, and makes the engineers around them better. The role sits at the heart of our 2026 transformation: AI as how the team works, and a Generative culture where quality risks are surfaced early and failures lead to inquiry.
What You'll Do:
- Native Mobile Testing
- Test native iOS and Android features, fixes and releases on real devices and emulators, from test design through sign-off
- Run exploratory testing and write clear test cases and bug reports with logs, screenshots and repro steps
- Cover native-specific risk: device and OS fragmentation, gestures, permissions, push notifications, deep links, app upgrades and OS updates
- Test poor or interrupted connectivity, offline and reconnect behaviour, and state recovery
- Decide which device and OS combinations matter, using real player usage data
- Release Quality & Automation
- Build and maintain native test automation (Appium or equivalent) with a maintainable framework structure (e.g. page objects), stable locators and sound waits, using AI to speed up building and maintaining tests
- Decide what to automate using risk, execution frequency and feature stability, and push back on “automate everything”
- Run automation in CI/CD pipelines, including parallel execution across devices, with clear and reliable reporting
- Find and fix flaky tests at the root cause rather than adding retries, using AI to help triage failures
- Treat QA as an engineering problem: track and act on defect escape rate, change failure rate, test cycle time, flakiness and automation coverage, treating metrics as feedback loops, not dashboards
- Product Partnership
- Partner with Product and the QA Engineering Lead on acceptance criteria and what “done” looks like
- Challenge work that doesn’t connect to player value
- Test critical player journeys, including payment and wallet flows, with a regulatory and player-first mindset
- Flesh out missing data & information for Jira tickets through independent investigation
- Team Growth & Culture
- Pair with developers and other QA engineers
- Raise quality risks early, push back on release decisions and have difficult conversations early, without theatre
- Treat failures as inquiry, not blame, and own your mistakes openly
- Share new tools and techniques that work, and help build a Generative QA culture
- AI-First QA
- Use AI to leverage and enhance your QA and test automation capabilities
- Use AI to accelerate building, maintaining and repairing native test automation
- Explore AI agents and AI-assisted automation tooling that make test execution and maintenance smarter
- Check AI-generated tests and scripts for correctness before trusting them
- Drive AI adoption and share what works with the team
- Monitor emerging trends in QA, automation and AI, and make evidence-based recommendations for adoption
What You Bring:
- Education & Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
- Work Experience: 5+ years in software QA, including native mobile (iOS and Android)
- Hands-on testing of native iOS and Android apps, and how native testing differs from mobile web
- Test design and exploratory testing, with clear test cases and bug reports
- Risk-based prioritisation, and knowing when it is time to stop testing
- Mobile test tooling (real devices, emulators, network throttling, logs and crash reports)
- Mobile test automation (e.g. Appium) and programming fundamentals (Java, Python or JavaScript/TypeScript)
- Test automation framework design (e.g. page objects, data-driven, BDD) and handling flaky tests
- CI/CD pipelines for test automation (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, GoCD)
- Crash reporting and performance monitoring (e.g. Firebase Crashlytics)
- Testing REST APIs and offline data handling
- Jira and test case management (e.g. TestRail)
- Practical experience using AI to leverage and enhance QA and test automation, including judging the quality of AI-generated output, with a track record of driving AI adoption in a team
- Experience pairing with and mentoring other engineers
- Clear communication and collaboration across time zones, including flagging release risk with data and pushing back on release decisions without theatre
Nice-to-have
- Industry experience in iGaming, sports betting or a similarly regulated, fast-paced digital product environment
- ISTQB certification or equivalent recognised QA qualification
- Experience testing AI-powered or LLM-based product features
- Background in performance, security or accessibility testing for mobile
